CARSON CITY — A Carson City district court judge on Tuesday refused to dismiss a lawsuit brought by liquor distributors against the Department of Taxation over the distribution of recreational marijuana to pot dispensaries.

Judge James Wilson said in rejecting the motion that factual disputes need to be heard in an all-day hearing set for Monday. One of those disputes involves the Tax Department’s intervention in a licensing process by liquor distributors in Clark County who were seeking to participate in the distribution process.

The decision could delay the start of recreational marijuana sales originally set for July 1 via the existing medical marijuana dispensaries operating throughout Nevada.

Here's the beef:

"The Nevada Department of Taxation has argued the measure legalizing the use of recreational marijuana allows for existing medical marijuana dispensaries to serve as distributors on a temporary basis if necessary from July 1 until the end of the year. [...]

"The distributors say the ballot measure voters approved in November legalizing recreational marijuana dictates that alcohol distributors get the first shot at pot distribution licenses."

Crap. Was moving to Reno as soon as my wife retires but thinking maybe of moving to Utah instead. Too many California liberals have spread their destroy society tentacles into Nevada.

Exactly. The booze distributors only care about getting their cut of pot sales.

The profit motive is stronger than nanny-statism - and thank God for that.

The alcohol distributors must think there is more money to be made in weed than in wine. If they were to be charged with violation of federal drug laws for possession of marijuana it could cost them their federal alcohol importation and distribution permits — regardless of what state law says. I’m not sure I would risk it.
