When I first moved to VA 20+ years ago you would occasionally hear a “real Virginia” accent (which is really distinct from a Southern accent) but I haven’t heard one in at least ten years.
You’re right the north’s rape of the south didn’t end in 1865. Lincoln’s, legacy lives on.
