Indeed. Drugs that are already approved for some specific use can legally be prescribed by physicians in the “off label” process for another use that the FDA hasn’t approved. It’s done thousands of times per day.
For example, my own macular degeneration has been stopped in its tracks by the cancer drug, Avastin, in spite of the fact that this drug has never been approved by the FDA for use against macular degeneration.
