SAN DIEGO (AP) — Federal authorities in San Diego say they have seized one of the largest loads ever in the U.S. of the potent synthetic opiate Fentanyl.

An indictment unsealed Monday says federal drug agents seized over 97 pounds (44 kg) of the drug, most of it from a house in San Diego.

A U.S. attorney's statement says the drug is so powerful that the amount represents millions of lethal doses. Drug traffickers use it to strengthen heroin or make counterfeit painkiller pills.

For those FReepers who are for legalization of drugs:

"If only we made illegal drugs legal, we wouldn't have people buying and using illegal drugs and the US government could make money from taxes and use of these drugs would go down and gangs wouldn't make money."

Of course, these drugs would never be put into food items, liquids, or our water supply and cause mass deaths, would they? /end sarcasm

They been a few police officers in New England who have received near fatal synthetic opiate overdoses from unknowingly being exposed while arresting a suspect.

This stuff is really bad.

Getting this stuff off the street should be the FBI’s #1 goal.

Executions for the production, importing, and distribution of these drugs are long overdue.

Of course, the motive the make these extremely powerful drugs is to make smuggling them easier.

We had legal opiats, over the counter, in the U.S. for decades before they were regulated by the Federal government at the start of the “progressive” period.

Where were all those poisonings you are claiming would happen, then?

You think legalizing drugs would make it ok to put in the water to kill people? I don’t understand your thought.

The FBI is busy leaking to the NYT and Washington Post. They can’t stop killer drugs at our borders or the doctors who prescribe opiates like they were Skittles.

I think his reasoning is if anything is legal, people will then use it for mass destruction. Sounds like a liberal about guns.

>>these drugs would never be put into food items, liquids, or our water supply and cause mass deaths, would they?<<

Nor could cyanide. Truth be told, when the federal government outlawed alcohol...people started killing to preserve their profits.

I'm not for legalization, but ya gotta ask, what the feds have done all these years, all the billions of $$$’s to fight the war on drugs has done what? Reduced the flow of drugs? Reduced drug use among Americans? Reduced Cartel violence?

It is just a plain simple fact, when they clamp down on legal drugs such as cannabis/opiates/alcohol...the flow of illegal drugs increase. The whole fentanyl thing raised it's ugly head as soon as the feds began rescheduling drugs like norco, Oxy this and oxy that...making it harder for people to obtain legal Rx's.

I hate that people are abusing these drugs and dying. It's terrible. I also hate that my dad cannot obtain the medication he needs to relieve his pain...cause the doctors are scared to death to prescribe them.

Somethings wrong and I don't have the answers, but what the feds are doing now ain't workin.

Oh...here’z a thought. Build a damn wall along the southern border. That might help a tad.

Start with the corrupt DEA agents that do 20 year stings on Mexican cocaine cartels.

How about the Feds that are importing opium from Afghanistan?

Governments have killed over 200 million people in the 20th century. Unless you’re a government minion, the government is the biggest enemy of the people. These guys are comparatively small time criminals compared to the deep state operatives and masters.

Fentanyl has applications as a weapon.

Hard to find out enough of its properties to know how effective it would be.

I think it has a short half life in water.

It is so potent, it makes a good poison.

That's funny you should say that. The U.S. Gubbamint is the largest holder of opium. Fort Knox houses a gigantic stockpile. I guess they stored it up in case of a nuke attack, I believe the story goes.

That's a bigger a problem as other hypothetical scenarios. For those that abuse drugs, if they die that was the chance they took. There are people suffering needlessly to the point of suicide but the antis don't care. They keep fueling this insane expensive WOD campaign.

A Sheriff Deputy in my county inhaled some Fentanyl at a OD scene a couple weeks ago and almost died.

That got me thinking how effective a balloon with a small amount that popped in a theatre, shopping mall or similar place would be.

Narcan is great but no-one carries 100 doses with them.

Last night, I invited a friend to speak to the boys in the youth group I run. He started at 13 with Boone’s Farm, then Marijuana, then coke and heroin. That was 40 years ago. He’s been clean for 25 and works with addiction ministries now.

One of the guys he took his first drink of Boone’s Farm with is now his brother in law and will probably die this week from frying his liver.

For those FReepers that are for criminalization of drugs.

You will take only the drugs we supply you, or we will shoot you, steal your property, strip your citizenship, and enslave you.

Here is food for thought. If the Chinese had factories making Sarin and shipping it here we would nuke them yesterday. But since it is a drug, it is OK...

Knowing how California immigration is handled, I’m surprised they didn’t just declare it on the paperwork they should have just provided to the immigration officials when they made it to safety San Francisco, the sanctuary city. Sure would have saved the time and effort as the stuff will be back again.
