There’s been a lot of speculation that the NBA champion Golden State Warriors will not accept the traditional invitation to the White House, given that a number of the team’s star players and even the coach are outspoken critics of President Donald Trump. But as it turns out, the coach — despite his Trump opposition — still wants to go.
In a podcast interview with Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, Golden State coach Steve Kerr said he would want his players to strongly consider going.
“Everybody knows I’ve been a very outspoken critic of Trump,” Kerr said. “And as a result, maybe we won’t even get the invitation. But I do think it’s very important to consider a potential invitation because I think it could have really positive ramifications if we did go.”
Kerr added that he believes a visit from a team which has been so critical of Trump might help bridge the partisan divide.
“I think it could make a statement in a time where there’s so much divide and everybody seems to be angry with each other. It might be a good statement for us to go. And to show that, ‘Hey, let’s put this aside, put all this partisan stuff aside and personal stuff aside, respect the institution.'”

Let’s remember that Steve Kerr’s Dad was murdered in the Middle East while the President of the American University in Beirut.
