Look, people should watch what they want to watch. I watch some sports that have been called boring (baseball, golf). What I don’t like is how soccer has been crammed down our throat. Americans should be more internationalist and embrace soccer, they say. They are trying to dilute American culture by attacking real football (and other American sports) and supplanting them with soccer. It is an alien invasion using sport. I don’t care if Vatican City wins the World Cup. I will not watch.

I have to admit, that’s actually part if my perception of soccer as well.

In 1968, my phys-ed teacher forced us to play soccer for a few days. We all detested the sport, but we were told we needed to learn it. Screw that noise. They gave up.

The most exciting thing about the sport was that announcer that used to scream “Scoooooooore” after goals.

Sorry, I’m not waiting around to hear that, and watching them go back and forth from one end of the field to the other, and fake getting tripped and such,... no thanks.

I hate to say it, but Basketball is the same for me. Good grief, if you’ve seen three games, you’ve about see everything you’ll ever see in the sport.

As much as folks carp about baseball, there are records set more often than you’d think.

There’s also a strategy to many plays once a runner is on base.
