New, bigger incentives for electric cars could be ahead in California
San Jose Mercury ^ | June 28, 2017 | Louis Hansen

California could be poised to set up more generous rebates and incentives for electric vehicle buyers — and not just affluent drivers cruising in Teslas.

Assemblyman Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, is pushing a proposal to establish a $3 billion fund to support the spread of electric vehicles with bigger rebates, more programs for low-income buyers and the deployment of more charging stations. It would also deliver discounts at dealerships, eliminating the need for consumers to file for tax rebates.

KEYWORDS:
The EV buyer would receive a $7,500 federal rebate, and the state would kick in an additional $7,500 to even out the bottom line.

The state kicks in sh!t. It's stealing from the hard working taxpayer and giving it to Elon Musk. Plus these sanctimonious Tesla drivers don't pay any fuel taxes for the upkeep of the roads they drive on.

Oh, as in tax payers hard earned dollars going to pay for these “subsidies” instead of actually fixing roads and bridges? Those tax dollars?

establish a $3 billion fund

Perfect. They can fund this right after they come up with the $400 billion for insurance. I mean, heck, what's another $3 billion after that?

Subsidizing electric vehicles inefficient way to reduce CO2 emissions: study June 22, 2017

Subsidizing the purchase of electric cars in Canada is an inefficient way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that is not cost effective, according to a Montreal Economic Institute study released Thursday. "Not only do these programs cost taxpayers a fortune, but they also have little effect on GHG emissions," he said. The study estimates that these subsidies cost taxpayers Can$523 per tonne of GHG not emitted in Ontario and Can$288 in Quebec.

In subsidizing electric vehicle purchases, Ontario and Quebec end up spending up to 29 times and 16 times, respectively, the carbon market price for each tonne of GHGs eliminated.

"Common sense, both economically and ecologically speaking, argues in favor of reducing these subsidies, and even eliminating them," the study concludes.

This is California. The dems own the state. This is going to happen like it or not. The state does have major air quality problems especially in Southern California and the Central Valley. It would be nice if more people drove electric cars in California. Conservatives should jump on this so they can get some of their tax money back otherwise it’s going to go to those people like the Prius ownerI saw that had a bumper sticker with an American Flag but said “These colors don’t rule the world”.

How awesome, more of moonbeams reaching into my pocket to give to feel good greenies pushing tech that is more harmful to the gaia than oil based tech and then he’ll reach even further into my pocket with yet another gas tax increase to pay for road wear and tear caused by electric vehicles that pay no road taxes at the gas pump.
