We and our allies have agents on the ground and in the Syrian government.

That said, errors are always possible.

********
There are folks in the USA who see it as their mission to bring down Assad. They are itching for any excuse. Hard evidence analyzed by an impartial group is not sought. All they need are photos that prove nothing and statements from Israelis.

“How do we know Assad’s army was responsible?”

Watchdog says it. We read it on the internet. Surely that is enough evidence to commit several more decades to protecting rocks, goat turds, and anti-Christians?

Yeah, that Assad is so misrepresented. He really is a good guy. Why does he get such bad press? I just don't get it.

Sources who reported that a sarin weapon was at the airbase. A radar track of the plane from the time it took off til the time that it landed. Witnesses who saw the plane drop the bomb. The name of the pilot of the plane. Other than that, not much.

The real impact of the revelation is that t belies other recent statements that the use of chemical weapons had not taken place.

As far as whether or not Assad was responsible, who cares? He has used such weapons before and if he doesn't want them used, he has a lot of power to exert....or see some of his military hardware go up in smoke.

State Dept Press Briefing 6/29/2017

QUESTION: So this recent statement from the White House alleging that the Syrian Government was planning an upcoming chemical attack, are you concerned that that could have created an opening for terrorist groups to carry out a chemical attack?

MS NAUERT: No.

QUESTION: You’re not concerned even though al-Nusrah, al-Qaida groups, have been using chemical weapons in Syria that’s documented?

MS NAUERT: No. Next question on Syria
