Drain the Swamp: Repeal McConnell, then Repeal Obamacare
Townhall.com ^ | July 8, 2017 | Arthur Schaper

On November 8th, the American people sent a clear message to Washington DC. We wanted to:

1. Make America Great Again—bring back jobs; reduce taxes; get rid of the IRS.

2. Secure our Borders—build the wall, beef up funding and hiring for border security; mandate E-verify.

3. Repeal Obamacare—and repeal all the other anti-free market, government interventionist programs disrupting our health care systems.

Most of the headlines I have read about Trump are welcome news, like the marked decrease in illegal alien crossings along our border, plus the rising number of arrests and deportations. Jobs are up, unemployment is down, and more states are prospering like never before.

Then I came across this article, a headline which I never want to see in the news:

McConnell Admits GOP May Not Repeal Obamacare

This is beyond outrageous. With strong majorities in both houses, plus an epic victory placing Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court after McConnell successful stalled Obama’s last nominee, one would think that advancing Trump’s agenda would not meet so many roadblocks. But US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is not leading. In fact, he’s the Bluegrass roadblock! He still hasn’t gotten the memo that his kind of backroom, back-slapping, horse-trading Republicanism is just as dead as the Democratic Party.

I don’t want the “adults in the room” pretending to govern. We need an active agenda of reform, streamlining, and outright removal of Washington DC from interference with the rights of the states and the people. Where’s the border wall? Where’s the repeal for Obamacare? How about tax reform, welfare reform, and the National Right to Work bill? Swamp thing, thy name is Mitch.

The tax-paying, voting public is getting restless, and we don’t have a real penchant for mincing words, either. We the People spoke loudly and clearly on Election Day. Republicans swept state legislatures in normally blue states as well as retaining power in the House and the United States Senate. Governors’ seats fell into Republicans hands, too. The Democratic Party is losing big, and they can cry if they want to, not that anyone really cares. Trump supporters are destroying the once-preeminent establishment of Big Media as well as Big Business and Big Labor, all the corrupt special interests which had been getting rich while Americans were growing poor.

Sadly, the Establishment GOP, Washington “progressive” Republicans like Mitch are still holding onto the reins of power. McConnell’s meandering capitulation on Obamacare is the last straw. Besides, the US Senate’s latest iteration of repeal met a brick wall of its own. For Cruz, Lee, Johnson, and Paul, It didn’t do enough to repeal. As for the pro-choice Republicans, they don’t want to defund Planned Murderhood, and Dean Heller of Nevada fears the bluish contour of his electorate. Does McConnell want to repeal Obamacare? Senate Leader Mitch refuses to lead.

My answer: step up, put up or shut up. True leadership depends on having a plan of action, fulfilling the promises that you ran on to win, and that got you elected to higher office. This round of failures, this foppish unwillingness to fight for anything but one’s cushy retirement and an elected sinecure in one’s home state is too much to tolerate.

This country needs a majority leader in the United States Senate who will step up to the challenges of unifying an otherwise unwieldy caucus of moderate to conservative members. Jeff Flake is facing primary challenge, so he should get along with the will of the conservative grassroots, or get lost. If US Senator Heller doesn’t want to follow through on a nation-wide promise to repeal Obamacare, then McConnell should confront Heller with US Senator Cory Gardner, the current chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee: “Repeal Obamacare with us, or forget the funding for your re-election bid.”

This country needs a majority leader who will put up a real fight with the Democrats. Does McConnell even know how to count? There are 52 Republicans, and they can count on Vice President Pence to break a tie if needed. Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is as toxic to his endangered peers for Election 2018 as is Nancy Pelosi for her dwindling Democratic caucus.

I say McConnell needs to shut up, pack up, and take off. This man is the lingering vestiges of nice-nice, bi-partisan cronyism. Log-rolling is not going to save our country, especially when the Democratic Party has embraced political views so anti-constitutional and un-American.

Future Republican leaders need to take another look at the battleground map going into 2018. They have a solid chance at 5 easy wins, with possibly three more pickups. The caucus has the upper hand. We don’t need squishy compromisers more interested in keeping the peace, while the rest of us pay dearly for their comity. It’s time to bring down this reign of error in Washington. The grassroots with the House’s conservative leadership lead the charge to bounce John Boehner from the Speakership two years ago. What would it take to repeal McConnell? Surely getting rid of McConnell could not be that difficult—and Obamacare repeal would follow.

McConnell just announced their actual intent all along...repair and restore Obamacare.

It’s a betrayal. Without repealing ocares big brotherism we endanger ourselves and generations to come.

Will he use democrats and 4 or 5 republicans for 51+ votes? Will Ryan go along?

Trump will veto it, and we will be left with broken ocare going into the 2018 election.

Get solid primary opponents now.

McConnell is a snake without the courage to do what the people elected him to do. I live in Cincinnati and watched him run for reelection. He will say and promise anything to one group and turn around and say the exact opposite to another group, depending on the audience. Think about it: We gave the GOP the Senate, the House, and now the WH, and what has the GOP or McConnell done with that power? Absolutely nothing. They should be deeply ashamed.

Of course, one assumes that dirt bag McConnell actually possesses a sense of shame...

I hear from the pundit class that McConnell is an expert at the inner workings of the senate, and if you need someone to guide you through all of it he is the guy. But he isn’t a LEADER, he is just a glorified technician. The Senate needs a Leader, too bad that aren’t any.

The Republicans, and McConnell is just one of them albeit the nominal boss, are uncomfortable as the majority and continue to take the Democrats' lead. Schumer is the effective majority leader. All of this is a tremendous argument for one-term limits on congressmen and return of Senate elections to the legislatures of the states.

The unease at having a Republican majority and a Republican President, especially a president who wants to shake things up guarantees that the Republicans in Congress are waiting not so patiently for an opportunity to institute impeachment proceedings to correct the situation. Pence as president would be a very good Constitutional Conservative but he does not have the savvy and the instincts to be anything but a caretaker until the Democrats can upend the system totally in the next Presidential election.

If Trump is successfully neutralized or removed the vote fraud will be tremendous and will not fail the Democrats in the next one and the pro American vote will be much reduced from perceived hopelessness anyway. The Democrats, now seemingly a permanent, perhaps on their way to being a local party, will be handed the whole nation and culture and their Revolution will be complete.

The Republicans in Congress are totally short sighted and cannot understand that they will be the first victims of the inevitable Show Trials because they are the prominent face of the anti-Utopia opposition. They will be the first defined Anti State elements to be purged even though they are wholly subservient to the Democrats just because they are not Democrats. The primary division here is not ideological but rather Us and Them- Who is to rule Whom, as Lenin put it.

Ted Cruz seems to be the only one with balls in the senate. He may have his problems, but he would be a hell of a lot better than the Turdle...spelling is correct.

Surprised?? It’s not as if the (R) PARTY itself seems to have gotten the message, let alone the known ass-clowns in the halls of govt.

Nothing from the party head(s) saying, “We HEARD the voters and will ensure our members follow your wishes & platform, or find another party.”

Nope. McTurtle and gang will continue to run and the party will continue to support them...party over politics, politics over principle. “BUT, we’re WINNING!”, right?

THINK people are *finally* starting to realize just whose team the ‘leaders’ are backing...find out in ‘18. Sure the (now silent) crowd of ‘feet to the fire’ and ‘throw away votes\voting for XYZ (D)’ will be out in force again.

The trouble in Congress is the Republican Party. Probably half or more need to be purged. Most of the rest are not “good” but they are followers and can be useful. The Republican Party is looking as hard as the Democrats for a concrete opportunity to remove the President and turn the country formally over to the Democrats once again and then the Republicans can be comfortably the “opposition” and don’t have to accomplish anything but collect their lobbyist money and go to their lobbyist careers when they lose elections. The Republicans will be more judicious in their choice of timing to make the Move. The Democrats would go for it even before there is a chance for it to succeed. The Republicans will wait until they have it all lined up and there is no visible chance for failure. They are biding in part to be able to fully take the measure of the man Trump. They know that as yet they cannot take him down and if they try they will damage themselves irreversibly. When they think they understand and can counter Trump’s moves then Ryan will start the Impeachment Process. That doesn’t mean they will succeed, but that they think they will.

Someday we’ll have the presidency and majorities in both houses of Congress.

Uh... never mind.

The unwritten agenda of the spineless GOP is to undermine the Executive Branch as a covert part of the “resistance”,ride out Midterms and wish for President Trump to be one term. They are despicable and the #NeverTrump idiots will continue to be a problem.

This does not load completely and I cannot see all the comments or even whole articles that are posted. It does not go that way with other sites. Is that a problem with FR right now? or is it Windows? I have the same thing using any of several different browsers. It is frustrating.

I’ve noticed the same problem using an Apple computer and Chrome browser. I’ve found that stopping the loading of the page and then hitting reload often works to load the entire page, but not always, so I do it again. Two or three cycles of stop/reload usually does it.

And, yes, it appears to be a problem specific to this site. I think it started with the server change, but could be wrong.
