Personally, I think they're trying to couch Don Jr.'s meeting as "everybody did it," to reduce the hysteria over this one single 20 minute meeting.
When we have a DNC official meeting with high-level Ukraine government officials where money was actually traded for information; when we have a sitting US Senator seeking out a British agent; when we have a candidate's husband being payola'd by Russian bankers; it makes Don Jr.'s meeting seem small by comparison.
And it makes the wildly out of proportion MSM reaction stand out pretty starkly.
