Trudeau says he did not reach out to soldier's widow in wake of Khadr payout (cowardice displayed)

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he did not reach out to Tabitha Speer in the wake of his government's decision to apologize and compensate Omar Khadr.

Speaking to reporters in Rhode Island after delivering the keynote speech at the National Governors Association conference on Friday, Trudeau also would not comment on reports former prime minister Stephen Harper called both Speer and wounded U.S. soldier Layne Morris after the settlement became public.

"I did not reach out and I have no comment on what the former prime minister did," he said.

Earlier this month, the federal government formally apologized to Canadian-born Khadr, giving the former Guantanamo Bay prisoner a reported settlement of $10.5 million.....

..."I understand how Canadians are troubled by this, including by the settlement, as am I," Trudeau said, explaining that he made the decision to settle with Khadr because he was advised that pursuing the matter through the courts could have ended up costing taxpayers four times as much.

“There’s many of us Canucks on the board who do what we Canadians always do - read, think about it, maybe pray about it (if we’re believers), but we don’t raise a stink about things.”

That’s what most Americans on this board do too. We all read and type. How many activists are really here?

He has a way to go to pass his "dad" in that regard.

You’ll not be shunned by me. Plenty of Canadian forces fought and died in various wars over the years. My great-uncle was one of them. He died in WWI, in France, just a couple of months before the Armistace. It was Canadian forces in WWII that liberated the small town in Holland, that my father was born in. My mother was born in Picton, Ontario and came here as a little girl with her mother. Tim Horton was a cousin to me, although I never knew much about my Canadian family tree until after my mother died in 1990. I have Patriots and Loyalists in my tree from my mother’s side, and there’s some Mohawk blood mixed in there as well. My great-great grandmother was full-blooded, and married John S. Way from Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County.

Sorry you feel that way.

Most of us realize that those that come here, unless they are a troll, are on our side.

We have plenty of so called "Americans" here who hate the US.

Canada puzzles me. It seems you have the same death wish Europe has and are doing everything possible to end freedoms and subjugate yourself to Muslim terrorists.

Once again, not ALL of us do. Unfortunately, Little Justin’s coronation seemed to prove that those voices don’t seem to matter at the moment, and whether we like it or not, the rest of us are currently being dragged along for the ride. :(

Thank you for the kind comments, and also to the others, who likewise had kind things to say (I’ll do it all in this post, simply because I don’t want to spam the thread)

But I do stick by my words that MANY Canadians consider the decision to give Khadr money to be an abomination. Indeed, recent poll number show that over 60% OF THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY VOTED FOR TURD-OWE have been angered by this. I think that, come next election, this decision is really going to bruise the boy wonder’s poll numbers (one can only hope).

Canadians are pissed about this and JT knows it, he will pay a price for this hopefully next election.

Canada will survive this idiot just like Americans survived Obama.

Canada has some of the same problems the US does. Liberal judges making law instead of seeing themselves bound by laws elected officials have made. And large urban centers like GTA being strongly left of center, just like NYC and all large cities in California. But conservatives fight on in both countries.

My hope is these young generations become mostly right of center as they age as we have seen in past. But I am concerned that may not be the case. If not we are in for big trouble the next 60 years.

No, they evaded capture, and hid out until the Canadians helped them escape to Zurich, Switzerland, on January 27, 1980. They were not among the hostages freed in 1981.

Search “Canadian Caper” for more info.

Good player. Too bad what happened. We always see advertisements for the restaurant.

I had never heard of him until I met cousins in Canada. We don’t have any of the restaurants here in the Utica/Rome, NY area. The first one I went to was in Canada. My mother never knew any of our family history. She always said there weren’t any relatives on her side of the family, but after she died, and I started researching her side of the family, I discovered that the Way family line she came from had many descendants.

I think Tim Horton was a Stanley Cup winner, with the Leafs in 62, 63, 64 and 67. The Leafs haven't won since then. Since I am not a Leaf fan, it doesn't matter much to me, that it's been 50 years since they last won. 😀😆🙃

Tredeau Jr should be strung up right next to him. They let him out of prison and now make him a millionaire on the taxpayer’s Canadian dime? If the Tories don’t make that an issue in the next election then they are worthless.

The American officials I shant name who released him back to Canada should also be held to account.
