The Christian Genocide in Syria
https://richardedmondson.net/ ^ | 23 March 2017 | Richard Edmondson

Posted on 07/17/2017 3:04:32 AM PDT by Cronos

British reporter Robert Fisk was on hand when the city was liberated and wrote: “The Greek Catholic Church of Our Lady is a place of shame, of burnt copies of the New Testament, paintings slashed with knives – many were lying in strips of gold and red fabric beside the altar’s broken cross – and mosaics chiselled from the walls.”

Fisk also mentioned that the terrorists had “gouged out the eyes of the mosaic saints.”

What is on display in these photos is not merely abomination and sacrilege; it is loathing and hatred of the spirit of Christ; it is detestation for everything Jesus taught, malice and abhorrence at the mere mention of his name; contempt for his memory. Where does this kind of hatred of Christ come from? What accounts for it?

it is not, I repeat, not Syrian President Bashar Assad who is waging genocide against Christians. Assad has been president since the year 2000, and prior to the outbreak of the conflict six years ago, Syrian Christians lived in peace and prosperity, free to practice their faith. The hatred of Christ I spoke of is far more likely to be harbored by those who are backing the terrorists, rather than those actually and genuinely fighting them. The latter, of course, would be Syria, Russia, Iran and Hezbollah.

We are supporting the wrong side in Syria. We must support Assad -- he protects Christians there

Shocking. And it is not only the churches and art work being destroyed, but human lives as well. Christian genocide.

Not a surprise that we are repeating every bad Middle Eastern policy Christians have been slaughtered in every ME conflict we have been in. .. Intentional ethnic cleansing by the US? We shouldn’t be there and it’s time to leave. No arms and no support.

Correct. Saddam Hussein was hated by jihadis in 1990. The Kuwaitis and Saudis suckered Bush senior. If Gulf War 1 never happened, there would have been no 9/11

We should support Assad now

The US shouldn’t support any of these governments or factions. Rescue the Christians and stay out of those hell holes. Let them kill each other.

One of the many sad aspects to this is that until very recently Syria was the country of the Middle East where Christians could live most comfortably and freely. This is lucidly conveyed in William Dalrymple's 1997 book From the Holy Mountain, a deeply moving account of a journey to discover the remaining enclaves of ancient Christanity in the region, many of which were continuing rites and customs from a tradition unbroken since the middle of the first millenium.

“Similar to the better-known Kurdish forces, they are against both Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and the so-called moderate Syrian opposition. “
