BETRAYAL: Republicans Push Anti-Free Speech Bill Written by Islamic Terror-Linked Groups
Townhall.com ^ | July 18, 2017 | Brigitte Gabriel

Remember the bakers in Oregon who were driven out of business for refusing to bake a cake for a ceremony that was against their principles? They were fined $135,000 under Oregon law.

Now the federal government is going even further, by pushing a bill to erode the First Amendment, which would criminalize opinions deemed as “hate speech.”

Indeed, if House Bill 257 is passed into law, you could be jailed for an opinion that defies political orthodoxy with regards to sharia law, or radical Islam.

The United States already has strict laws that protect against hate crimes, so one reasonably asks, “why do we need a new bill?” What does H.R. 257 add that doesn’t already exist? The answer is frankly shocking.

If this new bill is passed, hate crime would be redefined to include public speech such as arguments that our politically correct culture deems offensive.

There is nothing in this bill that protects your next tweet speaking out against the genital mutilation of children from landing you in federal court. In fact, it is quite the opposite.

This legislation was drafted by terrorist-linked groups, and sponsored by four Republicans (and a predictable laundry list of democrats), to silence Americans speaking openly about the threats we face as a nation. Tragically, the Senate proposal, introduced by far-left Kamala Harris, has already passed.

What a load of crap! Where is hate speech defined? With the current crop of Federal judges out there “deemed” is a very dangerous concept. What are they going to waste time on next? The number of Cracker Jacks in a box?

Didn’t I just learn that Michigan passed a law to jail any doctor, parent, or whomever if they’re involved in female genital mutilation?

Resolutions are not law.

Have you read the bill? I think not

Here is a summary

There is one summary for H.R.257. Bill summaries are authored by CRS.
Shown Here:
Introduced in House (01/04/2017)

Recognition of Jerusalem as the Capital of the State of Israel Act

This bill states that it is U.S. policy to recognize Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel.

The bill expresses the sense of Congress that: (1) the United States should recognize the sovereign status of an undivided Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, (2) recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and transferring the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv will signal U.S. commitment to Israel, (3) the President and the Department of State should affirm as a matter of U.S. policy that Jerusalem must remain Israel’s undivided capital, (4) the President should implement the provisions of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 and begin the process of relocating the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, and (5) U.S. officials should refrain from actions that contradict U.S. law on this subject.

The bill states that any official U.S. government document that lists countries and their capital cities should identify Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The President shall relocate the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem by January 1, 2019.

The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 is amended to eliminate the President’s authority, effective January, 1, 2018, to waive certain funding limitations for State Department acquisition and maintenance of buildings abroad until the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem has officially opened.

If the bill actually did what the this vague, yet overly sensational story says it does, it wouldn't last two seconds before being tossed out by a Federal Judge on 1st amendment grounds. Assuming, of course it could get through a Republican House/Senate and be signed by President Trump.

You are incorrect. HR 257 is a bill to acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to move our embassy there

Don’t read an article read the bill

Sorry but Gabriel is absolutely wrong. I don’t know what legislation she is writing about.

Here are the authors. Mr. Franks of Arizona (for himself, Mr. DeSantis, and Mr. Zeldin) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs

The bill is to recognize Jerusalem as capitol of Israel and to move embassy there

It’s House Resolution 257, not House Bill 257.
