McCain tells his closest friend in the Senate that he won't give up as politics prays for war hero after devastating diagnosis

John McCain announced he'd been diagnosed with cancer on Wednesday night

The 80-year-old Arizona Senator is recovering in Arizona with his family

He had gone in to hospital to have a blood clot removed from his eye last week

The procedure set back the Senate vote on the Republicans' now scrapped healthcare bill

Doctors realized his condition was more serious after the procedure last week

President Trump shared his well wishes for the 80-year-old after news of his severe diagnosis emerged

Some questioned whether the brain tumor was behind his confused questioning of ousted FBI director James Comey in June

Senator John McCain is vowing to return to Washington once he's been treated for brain cancer.

'Yeah, I'm going to have to stay here a little bit longer, take some treatments. I'll be back,' the 80-year-old Republican senator told South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, his close friend. 'I've been through worse.'

Graham shared the conversation with reporters on Wednesday evening, adding, 'So pray. God knows how this ends, not me. But I do know this: This disease has never had a more worthy opponent.'

McCain underwent surgery last week for what was thought to be a blood clot above his eye.

The Senate eagerly awaited his return and postponed a vote on the GOP healthcare bill while McCain rested up.

This is a delusional statement he is terminal. What he has is incurable and metastasizing

Most likely you may be right. But I will say that my Brother-in law was diagnosed with the exact type of brain cancer 19 years ago - he's still alive.

The McCain’s plan on picking who gets the seat eventually, too.

They aren’t going to let the Gov. just pick his replacement.

Swamp people.

I will be saddened to see all the love and support that Ace McCain will have here after his passing.

Another unhappy soul so wedded to power that it is impossible to let go. This is about McCain and only about McCain. Screw the rest of the world. Screw the family. He has to clutch onto power to the last gasp.

He's 80 years old, in the fight for his life.

"Coming back" is nothing but arrogance.
It's NOT serving the people.

Step aside. Fight for your life.
But let somebody else "serve" the nation.

John McCain is 80 and the condition what brought him to the hospital is a sign of being terminal. When this happens the time is short.

Glioblastoma is a very bad diagnosis.

I've had glioblastoma take friends. In my experience, he will be bedridden and surviving on morphine in 2 months, dead in 4 months.

I prayed he would do the courageous and correct thing and step aside.

Apparently he won’t. He is going to hang on to the bitter end, much the way Ted Kennedy did.

Sad. His ego won’t let him have the courage to do the right thing.

Hogwash! This disease will take down McCain just like it has every one who has ever had it. There is NO RECOVERY from brain cancer. Mc Cain will die from it, and he will die within months, not years.

Yeah. My brother-in-law was 28 at the time of diagnosis. The form of treatment he received was extremely aggressive - an 80 year old wouldn’t survive that kind of treatment.

get well soon, John, because you’ve still got some ‘splainin’ to do about your claudestine little mission to obtain paid-for Russian-generated intel slandering Trump.

If he wants any kind of quality of life for his remaining days, he will step down and be diligent with his treatments for however long it takes or until he can’t take it anymore. Getting yourself propped up to go back to work at 80 years old, won’t help him, and probably won’t help us.

McCain might last longer than people think - his tumor was operable, “surface”, and not in an area where it was affecting vital brain processes. Ted Kennedy’s doctor was talking about it on ABC (saw a video) & said that Kennedy’s was pretty much the opposite so he didn’t last long. This doctor said the gold standard was to give McCain a couple of weeks to recover from the operation, then 6 weeks of radiation & an oral chemo regimen.

Not wishing ill on McCain, but unfortunately for the country’s sake & to the detriment of Republicans/Trump, I do think he’ll be back for a while after maybe two months off, based on what is currently known.

"...triples the contempt..."

Agree 100% with your post. Senator McCain is likely the only American POW and sitting Republican senator whom I truly dislike.
He is worse than the Democrats because at least the Democrats are outspoken about their desire to recast our country as a Socialist nation.
He is a RINO who pretends to love our country yet secretly despises it with every fiber in his body. My vote was for President Palin in 2008, not him.

“The McCain’s plan on picking who gets the seat eventually, too.”

Which is exactly in keeping with the GOP-e foisting these betrayers on us, and then we voters get blamed for it.
