As I said, change our methods. Return the word “Crusade” to liturgical discussions. And maybe “auto-de-fe.”

Not true. Nobody dared to speak against THE CHURCH. The Church killed people for practicing Christianity that went against the beliefs of the Church.
Before the Enlightenment i.e. late 1700s, yes (so it did drag on beyond the Middle Ages). However this is 200 years later.
