The standoff between Trump and Sessions escalates

It is unheard of for a Cabinet-level official to be subjected to such visceral and public criticism, which has now gone on for a week. But Sessions showed no sign of buckling Tuesday, and in fact his position was bolstered by support from prominent conservatives taking his side in the fight with Trump.

In a recent conversation, Sessions’s chief of staff, Jody Hunt, told White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus that the [AG] “plans to move forward with his agenda in the department and he has no plans for resigning...

*snip*

Officials said Sessions is due to announce in coming days a number of criminal leak investigations based on news accounts of sensitive intelligence information. And within hours of Trump’s public broadside, the Justice Department announced it would change a police funding program to add new requirements that cities help federal agents find undocumented immigrants to receive grants.

On Tuesday, Republicans publicly rallied to Sessions’s defense. Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) said Sessions “is among the most honorable men in government today … I have full confidence in Jeff’s ability to perform the duties of his office and, above all, uphold the rule of law.’’

And Breitbart, the conservative website, posted an article saying the president’s public attack on Sessions “only serves to highlight Trump’s own hypocrisy” and it warned that the president’s stance could “fuel concerns from his base [which sees] Sessions as the best hope to fulfill Trump’s immigration policies.’’

Even among Democrats, Trump’s treatment of Sessions raised concerns. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said, “What’s happening is just terrible. The attorney general did the right thing.

*snip*

The surge of support for Sessions is remarkable, considering how isolated he has been within the government.

It appears that the upshot of Trump's criticism is that he has bolstered support for Sessions on both sides of the aisle in advance of Sessions moves to expose leakers and other bad apples at DOJ.

Hmm.

The surge of support for Sessions is remarkable

I believe that is the point.

The game is about to change and AG Sessions is about to go after Comey and Hillary in a big way. The Debbie Wasserman Schultz stuff is ramping up and things are going to get very bad for the Democrats.

I think the Left has now made it difficult for them to call for Sessions to resign. He's in. He wants to be there. I believe Trump wants him to be there. The game is afoot.

There's no point in dragging this out and letting Sessions' friends in Congress and the media turn this into an "even conservatives don't support Trump" event. Sessions was a mistake - fire him and move on.

hmm,Is this President Trump (possibly with Sessions’ knowledge and approval) making sure the GOPe is on Sessions’ side before something big comes down the pike?

I’m still trying to figure out if this is 4D chess or not.

Trump being Trump to get Sessions off his dead a$$ and start investigating the real crimes committed by the Dems. Also in the art of the deal.

It is unheard of for a Cabinet-level official to be subjected to such visceral and public criticism, which has now gone on for a week.

Wash Post book of style now apparently mandates the following:

1) Offer opinion in lead sentence of 'news' story

2) Rely on appeal to majority fallacy

3) Make emotional appeals

4) Empty out the thesaurus in order to supercharge emotional appeals

And, as usual, the question must be asked: It takes three people to write this rubbish?

Not just the GOPe, but the Democrats too.

“........expose leakers and other bad apples..........”

Speaking of “Bad Apples”, why has Sessions not dropped big bombs on both odumbo and hitlary, the two most corrupt politicians this nation has even seen?

-- Sessions is about to go after Comey and Hillary in a big way --

To your peculation, Comey maybe, but not Hillary.

Trump himself said in October 2016 that he would order the AG to appoint a special prosecutor for Hillary. He waffled on that but did not outright abandon it in a CBS 60 Minutes interview on November 13.

OTOH, maybe he'll fire Sessions for not going after Hillary. Who knows?

You don’t win a knife fight by playing by Queensbury rules. Jeff needs to put away his Senate hat.

Patience...patience. President Trump isn’t a fool. It is still too early in this complex game to clutch the pearls and start swooning with the vapors.

And they get the facts wrong - a week ago this afternoon, Trump’s NYT interview was published. But Trump’s attack against Sessions has been sporadic, driven mostly by follow-up press questions. The last time Trump attacked Sessions was yesterday afternoon, which by my account is 6 days, and 6 days is not a week.

Sessions is doing an amazing job of looking like he isn’t interested in taking on the criminals in our government.
He certainly has a lot of fooled!
I can hardly wait for when he lowers the boom.
Does anyone have any idea when that might be?
2018? 2020 or 2022?
