One of the undocumented immigrants who died in a stifling tractor-trailer here Saturday was a 19-year-old who grew up in Northern Virginia and graduated from a Fairfax County high school before getting in trouble with the law and being deported to his native Guatemala, according to court records and government officials.
He was sneaking back into the United States.
Frank G. Fuentes was one of at least six Guatemalans packed into a poorly ventilated truck with scores of other migrants who had crossed the border illegally, said Cristy Andrino, the consul of Guatemala in McAllen, Tex.
Frank G. Fuentes was born in Guatemala but lived most of his life in the United States before being deported in March. He was one of 10 undocumented immigrants killed in an overheated tractor-trailer on Saturday in Texas. (Family photo) U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Fuentes had been brought to this country before his third birthday and was deported on March 2 after being convicted of assault and battery by a mob. He was suspected of having ties to Mara Salvatrucha, the deadly street gang also known as MS-13.
The truck driver, James Matthew Bradley Jr., has been charged with smuggling immigrants for financial gain resulting in death after the vehicle became dangerously overheated, killing 10 people and injuring 29 others in one of the worst cross-border smuggling disasters in recent history.
In addition to Fuentes, Andrino said, two Guatemalans were taken from the truck for medical treatment: a 17-year-old male, who remained hospitalized in stable condition as of Tuesday; and a 23-year-old man, who is a witness and has been released and transferred to some form of protective custody.
Theyre relieved that they survived, Andrino said. They didnt know the risks they were facing.

Sounds like he should have taken the hint and stayed in his own country. As for the survivors, if they could afford thousands of dollars to pay a smuggler they can afford to pay for their medical treatment. If not the Trump administration should bill their host countries. No way should the taxpayers subsidize criminal acts.
Deport, deport, deport.
And then deport some more.
There should be a loud scream coming back at the Washington Post - HE WAS HERE ILLEGALLY AND DEPORTED BECAUSE OF CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS.
Makes this story even more heartbreaking.
His folk(s) had at least 15 years to regularize their situation, and couldn’t even keep him out of MS13.
Good
Oh,*please* stop...you're breakin' my friggin heart!
When you get kicked out of a place, whether it is a country or just a business, stay out. They weren’t kidding when they kicked you out.
Women and children gangbangers hurt most.
A mob convicted him? I would have guessed it was a jury, but mob justice is sometimes necessary.
“before getting in trouble with the law.”
Was it Murder, Rape, Arson, Burglary, Assault, Robbery, Gang related crime?
The way the LYING WP weasel words this I’ll have to assume it was pretty serious. If it were shoplifting it would be detailed.
Well, I guess he should have stayed put and not try to break the law again. Just deserts.
Not one penny of taxpayer money should go to the medical bills of these invaders. If the hospitals have to take them, as per our stupid laws, give them two aspirins and call ICE to pick them up. They have no business breaking our laws and disrespecting our country.
I don’t give a s**t. America for Americans.
Those MS-13 types seem to think of their home countries as small potatoes. The US is where the action is at. Thank got Trump is POTUS.
End DACA now.
Restore the rule of law.
“before being deported in March”
That means the decision was made under Obama and McAuliffe because deportations take months.
And we're supposed to break out in tears because an illegal act by a known criminal (he got in trouble with the law - Wa Po speak for felony) caused his death?
Sounds like your average All-American kid, eh, WaPo?............................
Hmmmm
I didn’t read the article...
this 19 yo was deported for breaking further laws but if he hadn’t he could have applied to immigrate and come back in that way...
we are suppose to be sorry for what part of his story ???
the fact that he was deported for being an illegal alien ???
or deported for committing crimes in the United States ???
or dying in a truck while committing the crime of entering the US illegally ???
