I Now See Voting Republican Is A Waste Of Time

There is a grave danger for Republicans in all of this. If there’s one thing the 2016 presidential election should have taught the GOP establishment, it’s that Americans are disgusted with politics as usual – the showboating, the sloganeering, the canned talking points and the pervasive, poisonous insincerity of it all.

That’s why Republican primary voters rejected, one by one, a field of presidential candidates full of experienced politicians. GOP voters were told their 2016 candidates were diverse and accomplished – and indeed they were. But they all had one thing in common: they were politicians, and Americans were fed up with politicians and politics as usual. So fed up, in fact, they did something drastic, maybe even reckless. They elected Donald Trump president.

Now that the politicians have failed them yet again, and in such spectacular fashion, conservatives might conclude, with good reason, that there’s no point voting for Republicans because they don’t deliver on their promises once in power. They might conclude that Republicans, having failed to take seriously the discontent of ordinary Americans, don’t deserve to govern after all.

“So,” said Arthur, hoping he wasn’t sounding ridiculously obtuse, “why don’t the people get rid of the lizards?”

“It honestly doesn’t occur to them,” said Ford. “They’ve all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they’ve voted in more or less approximates to the government they want.”

“You mean they actually vote for the lizards?”

“Oh yes,” said Ford with a shrug, “of course.”

“But,” said Arthur, going for the big one again, “why?”

“Because if they didn’t vote for a lizard,” said Ford, “the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?”

Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish (1984)

More than once I've voted for the Republican lizard to keep the Democrat lizard out of office.

Voting GOP in the General is a waste of time unless you’ve voted out the RINOs in the Primary.

I disagree. This is the time vote in greater numbers than ever for the most conservative Republicans running. Not to vote is to surrender to a nefarious bunch called the Democratic Party which is really the Socialist Party in every way but name.

No third party. Third parties gave us Clinton and Obama. Two parties straight up, but be heard, take command. No more of this “whoa is me” stuff. We have something really good going with this man Trump. Get behind him, completely. Stand tall like a Mississippi pine.

Except for judges, which unfortunately is where a lot of power is located.

I agree. We have to get rid of the RINO’s. One thing President Trump is doing is flushing them out.

Socialists took over the DemocRat party decades ago and most of the Republicans are closet socialists, too.

The silver lining is that no democrats in the senate voted to repeal Ocare, which gives the GOP nominees running against democrats in red states the issue to run on.

Its pretty sad. People don’t vote for them and they help the Democrats move their socialist agenda forward, telling us, “Elections have consequences.” We vote for them and they allow the Democrats to drive the agenda, telling us they “don’t have the votes” and ridiculing us for actually expecting them to deliver on their promises.

But I fully expect the next election cycle to be just like all the previous. We will be told that we need to fight during the primary, but fall in line behind the McCains, Collins, Grahams... during the general.

Do you mean , you believe President Trump will be unlike past GOP Presidents and will target obstructionist Republicans?

No. Now is the time to destroy the establishment GOP. Strike down those RINOs with great vengeance. Anyone in the Gang of 8. Anyone in the leadership. Primary em!

It sounds like we may have the opportunity to primary out Corker and Flake. If we get rid of a couple of RINO’s, the rest of them may figure out that “we the people” mean business.

Primaring Cantor with David Brat stopped “immigration reform” dead in its tracks.

Agree, we should take back the GOP (aka Dem lite). While voting for the stupid party has not produced the results we hoped, just imagine what would have happened if the Dims would have been in charge, (e.g., No Gorsuch instead another Ginsburg).

So I believe we should replace the RINOs instead of abandoning the Republican party.

49 GOP votes to repeal and replace. 3 no. Do you think you would do better with the Dems?
