One wonders if the reason nothing ever happens is because the Republican leadership is almost as dirty, and the Democrats and Republicans at risk are protecting each other. It’s was much easier and self-preserving for the Republicans to roll over and even assist the Democrats in going after Trump - the outsider, than to root out corruption that they may be part of.
