Don't worry about that for a minute. He worked himself up to 4 stars from being a private, as an rifleman and then an infantry officer, and I have yet to meet a single other officer I respected who did not have the utmost admiration for him. He is the anti-swamp. Not a political bone in his body.
He's so good that when I left the Corps, I kept tabs on him even though he was only a Major at the time. I kept thinking someone that professional and not ego-driven is exactly what the Marines need. Well, dammit if everyone else didn't see the same thing, and he made it all the way up. Probably would have been Commandant except he was too outspoken on the border as head of Southern Command, and it bothered Obama.
He is most certainly one of the good ones. A fighter, and a professional, not a politician.
