Why have to pay real wages, or provide benefits to Americans and assimilated, intelligent English-speaking legal immigrants, when you can import expendable idiots whom you can abuse an extort at a whim?

Remember, the original Republican Party was founded on 'Free Soil, Free Labor'. The Dixiecrat Senators fought it tooth and nail, but my Southern emigrant ancestors in Nebraska and Iowa put teeth in it and elected Republicans all across the mid-West.

Trump has resurrected that party from a party dominated by latter day plantation owners. It may take time but it will win and win big.

“This legislation is badly needed (and has almost no chance of passing a Democrat-RINO Senate).”

I agree with you and it is needed. The globalist, chamber of commerce types will not let this pass.

Hope this begins to get some play in both the media and other places. Legal immigration is becoming a larger source of illegals than those crossing the southern border illegally.

Yes visa overstays comprise over 40% of the illegal population. But Trump is proposing cutting the number of legal permanent immigrants from 1.1 million a year, to 500,000. They receive green cards and a path to citizenship. Since 1990, 35 million legal permanent immigrants have entered this country, which is equivalent to the current population of Canada.

I’ll believe it after I read the fine print in the legislation.

The fine print doesn’t really matter, anyway, since the federal agencies that “enforce” the new legislation will be able to write their own regulations, and they will interpret the new legislation any way they please.

And, future presidents, or even Trump for that matter, have the executive power to “defer” enforcement of most immigration statutes, for various completely legal reasons.

Finally, it’s almost comical to believe that the federal government can accurately evaluate the job skills of 500,000 to 1 million foreigners each year who have zero work records in the USA.

Oh, did I forget to mention that 80% of these folks will vote for the Democrat Party after they become citizens?

We are SO screwed!

This will turn out to be a backdoor way of increasing the hl-b visa quotas. You watch.

Common sense.

But will it pass the Flake/Ryno/Linda/McQueeg/Collins test?

Excellent point! We have to free up legal immigrants to increase wages in those fields. Hi tech and med companies will be forced to push for more qualified Americans.

IMO the biggest immigration problem we have is student visas. That area is rife with fraud. Schools can pretty much rubber stamp the visas (which they are likely to do in order to keep the tuition bucks a’ flown’, whether the “student” is a dunderhead, a terrorist, or worse).

Almost all of these people overstay and end up taking jobs with fake resumes (since the student visa comes with “work authorization” after they graduate)

Every little fly-by-night college has dozens of foreign students, so numerically this problem is vast.

if they are immigrants they cant “overstay” a temporary visa...they “visa” is permanent...

A visitor (a person here legally for a determined period) with a visa might “overstay” the date on the visa...stay longer than the 30 days etc...not leave...they then become an illegal alien with same status as those who came here illegally in the first place...

But an immigrant doesn’t have a set date to leave nor become an American citizen...he might never become naturalized or wait decades like Ted Cruz’s father did..

He can come and go out of the country at leisure as long as he doesn’t stay away more than one year at a time...

but he can stay here and work and does not have to fear deportation or a date he must leave...unless he commits a crime...

Immigrants don’t become illegal aliens...

FABULOUS AWESOME WIN WIN WIN!! For the first time in 52 years we take on the outrageous 1965 immigration act that has almost destroyed our nation!! TRUMP is the hero of the century for doing this!!

Yup, I think President Trump is a true America first president in a very very long time.

Personally, he is doing a better job than President Reagan and President Reagan was a great president.

Of course, President Trump comes after the America Hating Mooselimb Imposter President.

We are in one heck of a mess right now and all because of lousy presidential leadership and lousy congressional leadership except for Speaker Newt Gingrich.

YES!

Yep, I can see why liberal elites are angry - no more new democrat or members of a future ‘servant class’ for them to exploit.

Rather than bringing in new ‘victims’ to be converted to Democrats (on our dime), Trump wants to bring in immigrants who will ADD to our country...

please don’t use the phrase “a path to citizenship” for immigrants...

those words belong only with illegal aliens...who have no right to expect American citizenship...

its an insult to immigrants who do it all the right way...

if there was a “path to citizenship” for immigrants they begin it back in their own countries when they APPLY for permission to come here to live permanently... provide all the proof why they should be allowed to qualify for entry and then wait until they are told they can come here...

They finally arrive here having already proven they are fit to be American citizens and with everything completed for citizenship except time in the country...it use to be 7 years of living here ...

Every immigrant who arrives here has already completed any “path” and now has only the prescribed amount of years required until they can be naturalized into American citizenship...

It usually works like this.

Foreign student from Kreplepastan comes to enroll in a Masters Degree program at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa (yes, that is a REAL school...look it up!)

They graduate with a Computer Science degree and get a work authorization that is good for one year. They hook-up with a recruiter who prepares a fake resume for them and sends them out on interviews. They get picked for some IT project where the rates are too low to secure any legitimate talent.

While he is working on that job he is eligible to apply for an F1 OPT extension of his visa for two more years of work authorization. He can then get another job, and if that employer likes him they can sponsor him for an H1B, then a Green Card.

The whole process may take a decade, but at the end of the day he is never going home.
