CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada Insurance Commissioner Barbara Richardson issued the following statement in response to a request by Anthem under Nevada Revised Statute 679B.190(5)(b) regarding Anthem’s announcement that it will be withdrawing plans from Nevada’s Exchange in 2018:

“On July 28, 2017, Anthem submitted a Notice of Intent to withdraw from the Silver State Exchange for Plan Year 2018. As such, Anthem will no longer have a presence in Nevada’s individual health market with the exception of catastrophic plans which can only be purchased off the Exchange throughout the state. These plans restrict availability to consumers under 30 years old or with a low income” says Richardson.

Now about 1/2 of Nevada counties, or more, have no insurance provider in the individual market.

You can still buy a policy “off-exchange”, but with mandated “EHB’s” and the “age 26” and “pre-existing” mandates, the prices are crazy and the deductibles high. Can’t believe I live in a “free” country where I can’t buy a product I need. Crazy!!

I’m on medicare and have a Humana Med Supplement. Mrs. rktman is still covered by my former employer at the cost of $975/mth. So, is there gonna be anything we can move to when the enrollment period opens that would cost us less? Re-friggin;-diculous. Doesn’t look like much but we shall see.

Looking pretty horrible “online”...assuming “Mrs R.” is North of 55 y/o, I see some crappy high-deductible plans starting at about $475./mo., but it isn’t the “open-enrollment” period so not many prices are quoted online right now. I am going to have some discussions with local independent insurance agents soon...am not hopeful. We may end up on something like Liberty Health Share:

Roger that. The ones I looked at were not doable because of the open enrollment crap. She’s only 54 so there is that too. Absurd. Thanks CONgress for failing us yet again. Oh, and thanks for the link.
