Trump: US Nukes ‘Now Far Stronger And More Powerful Than Ever Before’

President Donald Trump vowed Wednesday that the U.S. nuclear arsenal is more powerful than ever before, but expressed hope that it would never have to be used.

Trump’s tweets follow his forceful pledge to the North Korean regime Tuesday that “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”

The regime issued a threat to Andersen Air Base in Guam hours after Trump’s inflammatory statement Tuesday, saying it would “turn the US mainland into the theater of a nuclear war,” likely in a response to a U.S. flyover in the Korean peninsula and a U.S. ICBM test Aug. 2.

If there was any doubt that Trump’s “fire and fury” threat was nuclear, you can remove that doubt now.

How about an array of MOAB’s which would level the North?

It won’t be a nuclear attack. We will use MOABs and bunker busters. A lot of them. Simultaneously.

Because of the threat to SK, we will need to do something overwhelming if we do anything.

1992. They have been the same basic device since the 1970s, with improvements here and there.

I tend to agree with you, to a certain extent. We definitely had more nukes then, and we still had the Titans, which carried 9 megaton (not Megatron, for any Millenials reading this) warheads. Many of those nukes are gone now, including all of the Titans. So, by sheer numbers and megatonnage, our arsenal is not more powerful.

However, our nukes are assuredly more accurate, and that is highly critical is you are trying to take out specific hardened targets (like missile silos or command & control bunkers). Having greater precision let’s you drop the megatonnage, reducing weight (which either increases a missile’s range - another area where we are better off now than in the ‘80s - or allows for more warheads to be stuffed into the missile’s nosecone).

So, we are both weaker and stronger. It isn’t all one way. In either case, we could/can make every inhabitable area of North Korea into slag-lined craters and/or radioactive, glass-covered parking lots. Kim MIGHT be able to land a nuke or 2 on US soil, but he and his country would cease to exist no more than about an hour later (and that’s assuming that the CINC is either killed or not able to communicate, and the Looking Glass command center has to launch a retaliatory strike).

Yeah, this was kind of a ridiculous statement.

I love (LOVE) that Trump projects American strength more than...well, any President I can remember (I was 7 when Reagan left office, so I don’t really have that level of memory of him). But, yeah, this statement was kind of ridiculous. Trump has certainly prioritized modernizing and strengthening our nuclear arsenal, but it takes a lot longer than 6 months for that kind of thing to happen.

Since C130s drop the MOABs it’s doubtful. They’d never get through the SAM defenses
