5 Things That Will Happen When California Secedes from the U.S.
The American Conservative ^ | August 14, 2017 | Jared Whitley

Any statistician or economist will tell you there is a huge world of difference between the improbable and the impossible. Brexit and the Trump presidency were both thought to be impossible, but they were proven to simply have been improbable.

And whenever I see an article about the move for California to secede from the United States (the so-called “Cal-exit”), the more I think that a vote to split is inevitable rather than improbable. As a member of the California Freedom Coalition recently told the Sacramento Bee, collecting signatures for the 2018 ballot, “We feel like this current initiative is more feasible and will hold up more to scrutiny and legal challenges.”

It is very easy to get an initiative on the ballot in California, so easy the left-leaning New Republic called it “a joke.” California made Arnold Schwarzenegger its governor. Twice. One might say passage of a secession referendum–even secession itself–might be improbable, rather than impossible, too.

This was decided in 1865, as I recall.

Sorry, TX and FL are a couple decades behind California but on exactly the same demographic trend. This won’t end well for the Republic, unfortunately.

I have thought about this some. I’d like to see them go before their debt obligations collapse them and they start looking for the feral gubment, meaning the rest of us, to bail them out.

Legislatively, judicially, or just by the fact that the Union won the war?

Would have been helpfu if your excerpt had included the list:

1.) California as we know it will cease to exist.
2.) New California will suspend long-standing liberties.
3.) California will have to renegotiate deals they currently benefit from.
4.) California will quickly become a failed state.
5.) Republicans will control Washington forever.

Without California Texas and Florida could control the illegal immigration problem.

Demographics are not destiny if you do something about it

5 Things That Will Happen When California Secedes from the U.S.

1) Pigs will fly.
2) Hell will freeze over.
3) Rosie O'Donnell will be named "Sexiest Woman Alive".
4) Tyrannosaurs will once again roam the earth.
5) George RR Martin will finish his "A Game of Thrones" books.

California will never seceded from the Union. This is a non-story.

Can you provide the proof of the Legislative decision that was signed into Law by the President?

Illegal immigration? Reliable Democrat Puerto Ricans are flooding FL now. They are all legal.

I’m thinking of a #6 - such a place would immediately become a magnet for every forward-thinking progressive in the country and with sufficient border controls we could keep them from coming back. And Hollywood would already be on their side of the border. I’m liking this idea more and more.

Very simply, California will need to issue its own currency.

As Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, and other nations have shown, you can’t run a big-spending, debt-producing welfare nanny state without having a reserve currency (i.e.. one that other nations and people want to hold)

In sum, Calexit kills progressivism and socialism in California. Ironic, eh?

The first item on the list is the one the secessionists fail to realize. Secession is political suicide for California. It would be the West Virginia scenario on steroids.

Draw a border of north and south right about at Vallejo all the way to Sacramento then to Truckee. Let the liberals keep SF and south of that.

But Texas and Florida don’t have Hollywood and all the coastal progressives. And, the majority of counties in both states have voted Republican in presidential elections, whereas in CA it’s been 50/50.

The ability to leave the union would imply the ability to return or to further subdivide what’s left and then return.
I would expect San Diego for example to do so, after considering the ramifications of losing the US Military. Also the rural agricultural areas.

Texas and a few other states have their own secessionist movements and idiots but it’s more fun to rag on California. Actually they all should be cheering on Texas too, that way between California and Texas they will have eliminated the majority of illegals.
