Almost. In 1938, FDR tried to influence the primaries by endorsing challengers aligned with him in order to knock off certain incumbents who were giving him a hard time. The party had a fit, and Roosevelt never tried that again.

So will the GOP-E, but since President Trump is not a Party member, it's Tough Noogies.
