There is some discontent in the Nation.
Staffers and contributors at the storied lefty magazine have raised concerns about an Aug. 9 piece by contributing writer Patrick Lawrence under the headline, “A New Report Raises Big Questions About Last Year’s DNC Hack.” Based on technical evaluations, the article called into question the consensus view of U.S. intelligence agencies that the email disclosures last year from the Democratic National Committee (DNC) — which assisted the campaign of Donald Trump — were the work of Russian actors. The whole thing could have been the work of an internal leaker, notes the article.
Katrina vanden Heuvel, the Nation’s editor and publisher (and the writer of a weekly online column for The Post), tells the Erik Wemple Blog that Lawrence’s piece is undergoing a post-publication editorial review. “We’re doing the review as we speak, and I don’t want to rush to say anything,” said vanden Heuvel. Part of that review is an assessment of the technical feasibility of the points in Lawrence’s article.
That’s a critical consideration, because the piece relies to a significant degree on a finding that hackers working remotely couldn’t possibly have downloaded all the information that they allegedly secured and passed along to WikiLeaks. Though Lawrence’s writing on this topic is impenetrable, he cites a number of researchers and groups — including Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS) — who have examined the official case for a DNC hack. Among the key actors is someone known as the “Forensicator,” an independent researcher of unknown identity. Here’s how Lawrence frames this individual’s contributions:

The Nation dared to stray from the official narrative that Donald Trump won the election in part due to Russian hacking, entertaining what had been until now a right wing conspiracy that there was a leak, and now editor Katrina vandal Heuvel has been given marching orders to fix this mess and fall back in line.
If Brennen is an example of those who headed the 17 IC orgs, there is no way anyone should believe anything they leak to the press, even today.

However, the chinks in the Leftist’s armor are visible. The Nation, Salon and Mother Jones are printing real words.
Those words are already out there in the blogosphere and a Leftist wrote them, succeeded in getting them discussed elsewhere.
Now comes the communist inspired Washington Whitewash Post, who are willing to discuss the article, only to announce Katrina Van DeHueval, Editor, The Nation, has launched a “REVIEW” of the article.
LOL.
The whole Russia thing must be self destructing if The Nation is looking to backpedal this.
An internal leak has always been the most logical conclusion. They just refuse to go there.
Orwell was disgusted by the “fake news” he witnessed in Spain during the civil war there - and it was perpetrated by the side for which he fought. He described stories of great victories where no battles had been fought, and complete silence when very real battles were lost.
After the anarchists he joined were butchered by their communist “allies” after the first year of the war, few had any illusions about the intentions of the Republic. Whatever they thought of Franco and the “old order”, they lost all enthusiasm for dying for a “new order”; the military slowly ground them down after that, and the left knew they could never win. By the time Barcelona fell in early 1939, few people were even willing to defend the center of the Spanish anarchist movement anymore.
It is also worth noting that Orwell was lucky to escape being butchered by his Communist “allies”.
If you haven’t read Orwell’s Homage to Catalonia, which we are discussing here, I recommend it highly. You can see the seeds for Animal Farm and 1984 in this autobiographical account of his time fighting in the Spanish Civil War. It is a short, quick, worthwhile read.
I’ve read of it, but haven’t read it; as I understand it, it deals with the “May Days” (when the communists crushed the anarchists in 1937). If I get a chance I will; thanks!
Translation: we published an article that’s not in lockstep with our rigid false narrative, so we’re going to try to poke holes in it and say “Never mind. We’re not going to believe our lying eyes: we’re sticking with our official Swamp-sanctioned Fake News narrative”...
what in the heck does Katrina vanden Heuvel know about anything the Forensicator and others have revealed in their discoveries about the “Guccifer 2” dump from the DNC? NADA. The facts are absolute in these regards! It’s a wonder how + why anybody at Camp Meuller can even look at themselves in the morning knowing everything the DNC claimed was a hoax! Even the “hacker” name “Guccifer 2” indicates fraud - what precedent is there for a hacker with an ego and the goods from the DNC taking 2nd seat to a jailed “predecessor”? The whole hoax has always appeared ludicrous ... maybe because it is/was! The data was downloaded too fast to have been “hacked” and had to have been leaked via an inside job. The “watermarks” were embedded after the fact by the firm the DNC hired to “review” while denying law enforcement any entree. The timing of Seth Rich’s murder is also thus certainly worthy of investigation.
