Five days after President Trump took office, he signed an executive order that promised a swift, sharp crackdown on illegal immigration — immediate construction of a massive border wall, quick hiring of 5,000 new Border Patrol agents and stepped-up deportation of undocumented migrants.
....Seven months later, construction of the wall has yet to begin, the number of Border Patrol officers has actually dropped by 220, and immigration agents are on track to deport 10,000 fewer people this year than in President Obama’s last year in office, the latest figures show.
To be sure, part of Trump’s crackdown is showing dramatic results. Illegal border crossings are down 22% compared with last summer. Arrests of people in the country illegally have surged 43% since January....

The Magic Mulatto deported the same people many times whereas the Trump Admin is deporting more people besides the additional thousands that are self-deporting back to their communist roots or to Canada.

The author needs to keep in mind that all this takes the
Legislative branch to provide the funding.
the LA times fails to tell you that illegal immigration crossings are down 70%.. less illegal crossings means less BP needed immediately.. the courts are backlogged months for deportations.. right now the Trump Administration is trying to appoint more judges to deport more.. CA is bent out of shape.. the Mexicans are heading home!
It would be funny if the administration has accepted applications online and waiting to interview applicants, and the reporter hasn’t bothered to check.
But good news is...now 6+ months in and President Trump hasn’t quite undone the damage it took obama 8 years to do, but he’s working on it and making huge progress.
These successes are the real goal, not the number border agents. If we're doing more with less, we must've cut away some dead wood plus some anti-enforcement people from the Border Patrol.
Just the threat of enforcement has knocked illegal border crossing down massively!

Also under Obama, the pay structure was changed so that agents are now paid less than other agencies at the same pay rates. Why would someone work for less money with harder working conditions ?

As if the LA Slimes wanted Trump to hire ANY new border guards!!! Not.
Customs and Border Protection occupies an entire floor 2 stories over where I work.
I have seen a steady stream of people showing up for job interviews for about 2 months now. I don’t know if they have hired any, but it would appear that something is going on.
What part of the country? Any chance they are headed south?
