Navy to Pause Operations, Review Collisions, With 10 Missing
The Wall Street Journal ^ | August 21st, 2017 | By Nancy Youssef in Washington and Jake Maxwell Watts in Singapore

The U.S. Navy announced an “operational pause” and has begun a broad investigation after the destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with a merchant vessel, leaving 10 sailors still missing, the second such incident in as many months.

The response by the U.S. military signals the Navy believes it needs to examine whether there may be institutional problems behind the deadly collisions.

Navy Adm. John Richardson, the chief of naval operations, made the announcement about the operational pause during a nearly four-minute video message posted on Facebook Monday morning. Adm. Richardson said he also ordered a broader investigation.

“I directed an operational pause be taken in all of our fleets around the world,” Adm. Richardson said. “I want our fleet commanders to get together with their leaders and their commands to ensure that we are taking all appropriate immediate actions to ensure safe and effective operations around the world.”

The Navy pauses while it figures out how it can have so many officers with sub-100 IQ in charge of multi-billion dollar platforms.

Because with a BA in teaching and a 85 IQ, you too could be a Naval officer. No other requirements.

And to ask ask whether it needs to return to merit-based recruiting and promotion. You know, that racist and sexist way it used to be done.

it would be an excellent time to test a nuke if I were N Korea....but they could take out a carrier with surprising ease.

END SOCIAL ADVANCEMENT IN THE MILITARY

There should be no such thing as affirmative action in the military. Would you want a heart surgeon operating on you that had a ‘D’ average? Or saving your country and running multi-billion dollar fleets?

Richardson said he wanted a broad and diverse team reviewing operations as part of the investigation, with the Navy inspector general’s office . . .

I suppose he could mean that he wants many different navy professional disciplines represented, but I somehow doubt it . . .

The Navy shuts down the fleet in order to investigate the collisions and all of a sudden you have a bunch of floating targets not ready to respond.

I am fully aware that I do not know if this is true or not but it is the perception that I’m getting from the headline.

Pearl Harbor II?

“but they could take out a carrier with surprising ease”

Appalling ignorance.

All the leftist freaks and casual vocal anti-Republicans I know have forgotten ALL about Li’l Kim.

“operational pause”

I thought that was called “standing down.”

Okay, maybe I missed the new euphemism.

The problem is not “woman drivers”.

The problem is that almost all women in the Navy are never held accountable for their performance and the performance of their teams.

For at least 20 years it’s been more important for the admirals to advance women to O4 XO and O5 CO level than any other aspect of their jobs.

And the same can be said of minorities.

Their performance and competence is secondary or tertiary to the numbers game.

You have obviously never tried to become a naval officer. 85% of the officers come from the fleet.

Has this type of “pause” happened before?

I can’t recall a time, in my lifetime....but, I certainly may have missed it.

The U.S. Navy announced an “operational pause”

Kind of like the sun today.

Prayers for the missing sailors and their frightened loved ones, especially the wives and children residing in Yokosuka. They are far away from their own families. The chapel, other command families, and neighbors can't really replace the comfort of a natural support system.

Me, neither... does it mean they’re just going to stop playing in merchant traffic lanes, and go sit and float until....?

When I was in the Navy over 1/2 of all Officers came from OCS, a few weeks from college graduation.

“The U.S. Navy announced an “operational pause””

I remember George W. “Aw, gee Biff” McFly Bush AND HIS DAD doing the same thing about when we were poised for victory in battle.
