I’ve also read that she very closely resembled his deceased wife. He couldn’t marry her at the time due to law and social attitudes but I’ve a strong feeling he would have if it was feasible.

The only reason people pore over this subject is because they think they see a chink in the public perception of the founders that they can exploit to drag them down...

Wasn’t her mother a 1/2-sister to TJ’s white wife? If so, Sally was the wife’s niece.

(And Sally was a quadroon — or as some said of her, “Dern near white.”)
