A Senate Republican is standing up for a GOP colleague in his contentious reelection bid, despite opposition from President Trump.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) will speak at a Phoenix fundraiser for Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) in support of the senator's reelection campaign against a pro-Trump challenger, according to azcentral.com.

Ernst will appear at a Young Republicans meet-and-greet event on Sept. 7, followed by a "Women for Flake" fundraiser the next day, Flake's campaign told the paper.

I am very disappointed. I can find a little solace in the fact that Joni is a noob and is trying to get some solid footing....she is more susceptible to being handled by someone like McConnell strong-arming her.

I hope she hears from LOTS of Iowa voters and Trump supporters that she is making a YUGE mistake in helping this weasel named Flake.

If the challenger is pro-Trump, then goodbye Flake and good riddance. People are wising up, even in AZ.

Ernst Don’t support Ward because she is a woman but would do a better job. Guess most incumbents would never oppose another because you need to work with each other, But no need to visit his state.

The Senate Majority Leader supports Flake, therefore his troops in the Senate are expected to fall into line. Failure to do so would mean a loss of influence within the Republican Senate caucus, influence that can make or break a senator. Ernst is doing what her position requires her to do, nothing more.

If McConnell is removed at some future time, the axis of power within the Senate will shift, and so will she.

I think she was one of the few who didn’t turn her back on Trump during the election so this is a surprise.

What irks me is how that little viper—like so many others—deceptively climbed into office as supposed tea partiers.

It didn’t take long for McConnell and Cornyn to co-opt her.

It seems near impossible for rookies to resist the Swamp’s siren call once they arrive in DC.

I gave money to her campaign because she had Tea Party endorsing her, now that she outed herself, she will have me opting out of her emails.

I hate it when I have to admit I got fooled by a Rino.

How tone deaf. They leave town for 30 days and then come back and campaign. Will they ever do their jobs? Answer-No if it helps Donald Trump. Throw the bums out!
