California Today: A Proposal to Split California Into Three (YES!)
NY Times ^ | 8/30/17 | Mike McPhate

Posted on 09/04/2017 8:31:29 AM PDT by Libloather

In contrast to the so-called Calexit movement, which aspires to secession, these proponents see California’s salvation in greater local autonomy within the union.

A few years ago, a bid to create six states out of California drew wide media attention but ultimately fizzled.

Now, the architect of that effort, a tech billionaire named Timothy C. Draper, is back with another idea: three Californias. He submitted paperwork that would put the question before voters in 2018.

Did you catch the DACA announcement from the Attorney General?

“We inherited from our Founders—and have advanced—an unsurpassed legal heritage, which is the foundation of our freedom, safety, and prosperity.

“No greater good can be done for the overall health and well-being of our Republic, than preserving and strengthening the impartial rule of law. Societies where the rule of law is treasured are societies that tend to flourish and succeed.

Societies where the rule of law is subject to political whims and personal biases tend to become societies afflicted by corruption, poverty, and human suffering.
To have a lawful system of immigration that serves the national interest, we cannot admit everyone who would like to come here. That is an open border policy and the American people have rightly rejected it.

Therefore, the nation must set and enforce a limit on how many immigrants we admit each year and that means all can not be accepted.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just another dumb F^@k American, I guess.
What pious bull crap you preach to someone who is opposed to everything you mention and faces it and deals with it realistically.
You are a terrible person because you allow bad things to happen in your state of Kansas./s You should be ashamed./s
Lots of room out here. Abiders of the law and productive legal citizens are more than welcome.
Bring all your guns. We have constitutional carry, no restrictions until you approach the kiloton range.
You must work prior to receiving financial assistance from the tax payers.
You must be a legal citizen of the country and the state to get a drivers license.
There are no sanctuary cities in the state in spite of a few liberal sheriffs over stepping their elected authority, and those are being reined in as we speak.
You have to go out and get a job, are expected to perform to standard, and can quit or be fired at a moments notice with no legal recourse as its your opportunity to work and the bosses decision if you are good enough to remain or be fired outright.
Pot is ILLEGAL
Growing POT is illegal.
Selling POT is illegal.
Driving through our state with POT in your car is illegal.
I realize there are lots of disqualifiers in there for some folks, maybe thats why we have so much elbow room out here.
You sanctimonious POS.
You sit in your pissant populated state and throw shade
at me and all California conservatives and think that
you can shame me and, by extension, other conservatives
with your finger pointing. You might experience some of
the same issues as California if there was a desire by
anybody to live in the middle of ‘Nowhere, USA’ as you
do. Pretty safe, huh? For the record, California has
twice as many Republican voters as the State of Kansas
has residents. Still feeling like another out of state
California expert? Did your ‘idiot’ brother bestow that
honor on you?
At the risk of repeating myself within the same thread
I think this may help give you a flavor of where I am
coming from. Imagine being in a room full of people
who are all talking about you as if they are experts.
Nobody cares that you are there or what you have to say.
Would that tick you off a little bit?
Not wanting some one gerrymandering the representative seats to give the liberals more power is not being self righteous.
My point is YOU ARE WRONG in wanting to divide California.
Getting three to five times more bad than good out of changing a situation is not advantageous. Support for this on a national scale is the same as support for Puerto Rico or Guam statehood. ZILCH.
One thing you are correct on. I will go now and exercise my freedom to meander aimlessly throughout my entire community, being the DF that you claim me to be and spouting my pie hole to any and all the people on Main Street of Hayseed, Kansas USA (immediately after I wave to them and say "Hi. How are you doing?", because thats just the silly way we are able to act when we have SO MUCH FREEDOM), fully armed and unafraid of anyone or anything I may encounter.
Oh, I missed this little jewel.
Welcome to being free. You have a right to speak but you have no right to be heard by anyone. Do you feel like you are being ignored? HA ! ! The entire rest of the conservative base in the country has been face palming and going WTF to California for over half a century.
The Emerald Triangle (gotta be loads of republicans there, right?), the Crips and the Bloods, the Kardashians, San FranSICK-O and Berkley, the corrupt judges and police forces that turn a blind eye, colleges that teach illegals how to take advantage of this countries wealth and generosity, Schwarzenegger and now Moonbean, and a society that encourages and welcomes illegals to occupy their state and awards them with benefits they didnt even ask for. (By no means an exhaustive list)
Me being the POS that I am, I really dont give a flip about what you or any other group thinks of me, or if you are all talking about me behind my back in whispers, as I have no control over you or them. You make my point by saying that no one in your communist state gives a rip about me living in the middle of no where. The hardest thing we can do is take our own advice.
The population of any parties voters in any other state is negated by the Constitutional use of the electoral college. Your big and bad California has been trumped by the founders. As it should be.
If you keep allowing other conservatives to spin you up like this, your arguments are lost against any kind of concerted liberal attack.
And about my sanctimonious and self righteous flaunting of my freedom at you? (I really didnt mean to trigger you.) Why do you not like me exercising and wanting to maintain what little freedom I have? Just because the state you live in is out of control, dont think I am going to let you destroy parts of mine to help you save it. If I am the only non-Californian idiot that thinks this, then so be it. (but I dont think that I am.)
It is you that has it WRONG!
I am for splitting my state into two states and no
more! In the state legislature LA County has 11
state senators for that one county. Meanwhile, I am a
resident of a county that is among 20 counties that is
represented by a SINGLE STATE SENATOR and you say that
I am wrong to want to divide into two states? You seem
to suffer from the erroneous idea that everybody in a
large population state like California has a similar
mindset. That may be the case in your state but it is
most definitely not so in California. To state that my
part of California would be no more red than Oregon
and Washington betrays an unbelievable ignorance.
And, for the record many citizens of Southern Oregon
feel just as disenfranchised in their situation as we
Northern Californians do in ours. That is why Southern
Oregonians and Northern Californians joined together
in the first State of Jefferson movement way back in
1940.
If you don’t know that your basic small town Northern
California person is a “Hi. How are you doing?” type
then you haven’t spent any measurable time traveling
the region which means that you should probably ask
more questions rather than provide uninformed answers.
Congratulations on exercising your freedom only in this
case it is the freedom to be both ignorant and stupid and
to talk out of your ass.
So I came down a little hard on you, initially, and
things deteriorated from there so you hit me with
everything about California that all conservatives
don’t like. I get it, boo-freakin-hoo. I think you
are kind of funny. But, it does makes me wonder what
makes you spend your time hanging around a forum that
is based in Fresno, California with more California
members than from anywhere else who provide more
operating $ than anybody else. Isn’t watching wheat
dry safer than this?
If anyone has a problem with me hanging around this forum, I am sure that the owner will somehow let me know. If this forum deteriorates into a California Onlys Club, rest assured I will be the first one out the door.
Finally a smidgen of data to bolster your position.
For coming from from a “Hi! How ya doin!” kinda place, it only took you and your friends 8 or 10 conversational exchanges for you to get past your emotional ranting, name calling, more vulgar name calling and stereotypical attacks on someone you know absolutely nothing about and only presumed was against your position.
I would like to think that you are authentic but you continue to insult me by insinuating I’m “playing it safe” because I live somewhere that has all the freedoms that you dont, as if thats my fault. Not a very convincing argument but I am starting to understand why all your efforts from 1940 to date have advanced your State of Jefferson as far as they have.
Nobody has a problem with you hanging around this forum.
You are just trying to twist my question to you about
why you would want to frequent a forum where all of
these conservative Cali people like myself caused all the
problems in this state.
“Finally a smidgen of data to bolster your position.”
And, you provided what data to support your position
that Northern California would be red in the vein of
Oregon and Washington which we all know are not red
at all as a whole? Of course you provided none which
certainly helped to attract the attention of this
Northern Californian. It is that kind of bilge which
puts a quick damper on my own “Hi! How ya doin’?”
nature. Failure on your part to acknowledge your
initial mistake or to at least offer evidence of
your statement ain’t going to make me offer you a
buddy hug. Frankly, I’m tired of those who toss crap
on the wall without knowing what they are saying when
it comes to the subject of California. You might try
consulting Cali FReepers before venturing out on that
tight rope if it is that important to avoid the blow
back.
I don’t begrudge you for living where you choose and
where you have all of the freedoms that I don’t have.
It is the choice of Americans. If I would begrudge
anything it would be that from your relatively
conservative crows nest you and others add more heat
than light to the issues.
Where did I say that conservative people or Freepers caused all the problems in California? How many different straw men do you have running around in your head?
The only position I took was an opinion of the article posted, and it wasnt even directed at you or anyone in particular. The OP didnt have a problem with that but its obvious that you did.
You attacked my statement that it wont matter, OUT RIGHT. Thats perfecty ok with me. I remind you again that I was not responding to you or pulling your string in any way.
Starting with your second sentence you began ranting at me that my views are bilge water, I am a sanctimonious piece of $hit running my uninformed simple minded pie hole just to be a dumb fu@k. You belittle where you think I live and accuse me and most everyone that doesnt live in northern California of not supporting conservative minded people in California for no other reason than they are agreeing completely with you and you are not getting your way. You casually disregard your insolence then try to engage me in your argument by telling me I dont know what I am talking about in the first place and that I somehow continue to give you reason to be your pet peeve.
Next I will be accused of being a DU troll and a Roman Catholic in good standing.
“Where did I say that conservative people or Freepers
caused all the problems in California?”
Try post #59. To be more precise you actually singled me
out because I apparently personally failed to halt the
flood of liberalism as far back as 1850. If that was not
blaming then what the hell was it? Would it be OK if
I blamed the both of us for the election of Obama in
‘08 and ‘12? Try re-reading post #59 to see if you can
find the straw men for yourself.
It doesn’t matter that you were addressing the article.
What you posted is not true and you certainly did
not assert that it was only your opinion at the time.
I attacked your statement OUT RIGHT because I am a
native Northern Californian who is well travelled in
my own neck of the woods.
If you don’t like the way I have been addressing you
then you could have, at some point, admitted that you
may have been initially mistaken, then you could have
called me out for being unnecessarily mean about it.
I could take that. Instead, you have chosen to exchange
fire continually, giving as much as you get.
I can be a nasty SOB but accusing someone of being a
DU troll is pretty damn silly considering that any
FReeper’s posting history can be followed. Further,
my best buddy from college is a Deacon in the Catholic
Church. I was in two of his weddings.
If yours is any example, I have no problem seeing why the liberal are running rampant in your state. If alls you can come up with is one post with less than one paragraph of valid explanation of your position without resorting to personal attacks, no you did it first, and vulgar name calling, the State of Jefferson will never be. If a Kansas hick can stir you up this much, some one who has no skin in he game except for not wanting more liberals in office, your efforts dont stand a chance against liberal who are entrenched in the system and obviously have the upper hand in your state.
Good luck with that.
And, when I open the door for you to address your initial
“mistake” you skipped right by it to address my “vulgar
name calling”. Between the two of us you are the one who
initiated the exchange by posting a short but bogus post.
To be honest I wanted to construct a response that would
attract your counter response from the start of this.
Why? Because had I simply posted that you were in error
my experience tells me that you would have likely ignored
what I had to say.
As this is a conservative site we are all free to pretty
much say what we want without considering a potential
response from the libtards and most of us do so sooner
or later. It is also true that most of the bad stuff
posted about California politics happens to be at LEAST
partially correct. On the other hand there are often
untrue blanket statements made about ALL Californians
that I or others may, or may not, address. I suspect
some of this goes beyond politics and into the realm
of resentment and/or jealousy and those who practice
this kind of posting are just playing a juvenile game
of “me too” when it comes to the ‘Cali hate’ pastime.
I won’t defend the rotten politics or leadership of
my state. Often, I engage in Calicritism myself. But,
there is plenty of bad stuff w/out resorting to making
up crap. When people including you choose to do so in
the presence of Cali FReepers you shouldn’t always
expect a free ride as if you were only discussing generic
liberals.
At this stage I know that I have made you so mad that
there is no way for you to grant me my original point.
I might react in the same way. However, you are
providing me with with an ongoing platform that could
reach somebody else and for that I thank you.
