That story also brings to mind the LA riots — 5 killed, I think all of them by Korean store owners guarding their shops from the roof with ARs.

U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp - a deserving candidate to be tried, convicted, sentenced and hanged for treason.

Great place NOT TO LIVE. I suppose this will prevent injuries to all the looters once the storm blows over. All those locals out there stealing each others corrugated tin to rebuild with and all....... ....OR VISIT....even with LEOSA credentials. PITA!

There were some dangerous people with guns, including some NOPD, but they’re not the ones that had their guns confiscated.

St. John seems a lot more manageable with a considerably different demographic component.

Do a military N.E.O. and thn aoo is reasonable.

With this much lead time, mandatory evacuations are very reasonable, if done in an orderly manner.

1) Direct all hospitals, nursing homes, and other care facilities, to provide rosters of those who may need evacuation assistance. Send lots of people door to door to inquire as to anyone that might need help. Set up medical hard shelters out of the disaster area with personnel and supplies for these people.

2) Organize all towing companies to position vehicles and drivers along the evacuation routes, with orders that any vehicle breakdowns be towed off the highway.

3) Direct evacuations by license plate letters (which tend to be location based), so that those most at risk leave first, and their areas are then policed by national guard.

Each subsequent location evacuates in turn.

You all need to actually read the article, as only 1 other poster stated earlier.

Stupid question but is this not part of the United States? Does the Second Amendment not apply here? This is such an incredible overreach of government authority, who will be to blame if a government official or law-enforcement authority is injured or killed while trying to seize a private citizens lawfully owned guns? Will self defense apply?

The Virgin Islands has been a corrupt Democrat cesspool. Thanks to the corrupt dems, the Hovensa refinery was shuttered.

You try that and you’re gonna get the firing end of my muzzle.”

Let the politicians and judges go door to collecting guns....see what happens.

Thank goodness. I was worries, as you all were, too, that the NG would be unarmed when they stood on the beach and ordered Irma to stop.

Say, what?!? Any excuse to strike down the 2nd.

Yep. Virgin Islands Code. Check out Title 23, Chapter 19. During mobilization, national guard have all the powers of police.

Unconstitutional.

No matter, by the time a judge rules it will all be over.

We MUST remove Sovereign Immunity from our laws and have a means to prosecute and imprison officials who break the law while carrying out their “duty”.

Whether a Governor or a Cop on the beat.
