The NYT had a piece about 2-3 months ago about the Democrat Party's strategy for the 2018 midterm elections. They hired a prominent political consultant to give them some guidance, and the consultant came up with what sounded like a solid game plan:
Focus on the GOP House members in districts where Clinton beat Trump in 2016. They went out and did extensive polling among voters in these districts, and they were stunned at one of the biggest things they learned: Republican support for Donald Trump in these districts was stronger in mid-2017 than it was on Election Day in 2016.
