We won all those wars without it? But today we can’t navigate a stretch of ocean? When I see ww1and ww2 footage, I see uneducated men who were in non combat jobs squaring their shoulders and facing difficult times. The infestations of lice and all manner of nasty, dirty warfare.
Just wierd. Our standards and our expectations have sunk to a low that is scary, as a civilization.
since when did competency require a certification?
If you work on a warship, a destroyer, then surely you have the competency and the training? No?
You are saying we put warships out to sea without competent folks? I know there is a clear difference between competency and excellence. That requires a lot of intangibles.
Navigating the ocean seems like a 101 skill in the Navy.. on a destroyer, maybe it’s a 301. Are you saying we put the 101 guys out there? On a muti Billion dollar destroyer? That’s how I see it.

You see it as you should. These things have been in place for well over a century. Even our WWII heros trained and drilled their asses off to become competent military fighting men.

Certification isn't new. After a major retrofit in the late 60's, my DLG went through a full INSURV inspection as part of the recommissioning It covered everything.

Before my DDG's WestPac deployment in 1972, we did a huge amount of training and what seemed like innumerable inspections.

I commend you to the first Navy report about the Fitzgerald.

It’s a testimony to the heroism and TRAINING of the crew at a time of disaster.

They didn’t panic (that’s TRAINING). They acted professionally did there duties, saved lives of their fellow sailors.

We can ALWAYS use more “training”, but don’t accept for one minute that our servicemen are UNTRAINED. That is BULL$HIT!

“servicemen” is a gender neutral term. It implies both sexes. It is not necessary to add “servicewomen”. It is a form of the word “man”. As in HU “MAN”. not a “male”. Last time I looked, women were also “HUMANS”. (except Hillary, Pelosy, & Waters), but then again, are they women? I digress....

This “politically correct” bastardization of our language has to STOP!

Look at where it has lead us! Terms like him or her are being removed from the lexicon. No one knows which bathroom to use or WHO is in there with you.

It all started with the objection by the left to fire man, police man, and flag man. AND WE WENT RIGHT ALONG WITH IT! (well y’all did).

Now the left is out to DESTROY our military in another way by denigrating them as being untrained buffoons. And many are just eating it up. Sad, really.

Don’t get me started on “Confederate” statues.
