The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

It’s going to get very, very real in Key West within the hour.
You have earned it.

I found that here:

I’ve been wanting to see the Hemingway house there for years.
Might not be there after this.
There was a live link where folks were taking selfies on Key West earlier today. Crazy.
People taking selfies in Key West yesterday.
Hope they did this right before leaving!

SUMMARY OF 0400 AM EDT...0800 UTC...INFORMATION
I’m still out here
Geesh.
Pressure dropping, radar showing a NNW moment. Damn thing is going to zig-zag a little west, a little north. 160 mph winds aloft reported.
Taking catnaps. Just took my corgi to walk...lots of Nose News for her! She was very excited by all the different smells in the wind. Light drizzle, a slight breeze here in Seminole County. Concerned about tornadoes here later. But ready.
WSR 88D at KBYX Key West shows a max 56.4 (~65 mph) knots, right now, on the half degree tilt.
I know. I was watching them, and thinking to myself that there is a very good chance many or even all of them won’t see tomorrow morning.
Irma on track to hug Floridas West Coast from south to north
The odds were increasing on Saturday night that Irmas trek up the Florida peninsula would be focused along the states west coast. The NOAA/NWS National Hurricane Center again nudged its forecast track slightly westward at 11 pm EDT Saturday, bringing the center of the cone of uncertainty across the Tampa-St. Petersburg area for the first time. Guidance from the 12Z Saturday ensemble run of the European model, and from short-range models on Saturday night, suggested that Irma may stay near the west coast along the entire peninsula, perhaps remaining partly or even mostly offshore. Such a track would enhance the risk of damaging hurricane-force winds along the entire west coast, including the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. Winds to at least tropical storm strength (sustained at 39 mph)perhaps lasting a few hoursare likely on Irmas right-hand side across the entire Florida peninsula, as well as the eastern Panhandle and southern Georgia. These winds can easily bring down trees and power lines. Power outages from Irma may affect millions of people and take a number of days to repair.

The Weather Service guys on Key West just said said “life-threatening” storm surge coming between now and dawn. Tide’s rising with it.
Eyewall precip edge 8.6 NM (~one hour) from Key West south shore, as of 5:51 EDT.
Track over the last 60 minutes, 358 degrees.
That’s several hours ago. The live feed has been down for a good while.
