The Minnesota Supreme Court said Friday that it was within Gov. Mark Daytons authority to veto funding for the state Legislature, ordering the DFL governor and Republican legislative leaders to work with a mediator to finally resolve their long-simmering constitutional dispute.

As Dayton and GOP leaders negotiated the states next two-year budget, Republicans seeking to get the governor to sign off on their tax-cut package that they knew he disliked linked funding for the state Department of Revenue to passage of the tax bill. In response, Dayton vetoed legislative funding, arguing that it was the only way to get Republicans back to the negotiating table.Sounds like the GOP shot themselves in the foot, as usual.

In 2011, there was a Republican majority in both Minnesota houses. The budget was submitted to Dayton, but he would not even look at it, never mind negotiate, since it was put together by those icky icky Republicans. Dayton’s actions were what I expected from a Minnesotan “stuck in junior high”. That was the year I decided to return to Texas after ten years.
