This fake news report keeps on circulating. It is time to debunk the ignorant and misleading story. This article appears to have been published by CBS in 2014. The implication of the story is that it tells something about how many firearms are in each state.
As with much fake news, the most important part is the headline. In this case, it is a question: How heavily armed is your state? CBS gives the methodology. It is laughable to the point of being bizarre. To the ignorant, the methodology may seem plausible.
To those with knowledge of the subject, it is insane. From cbsnews.com: How heavily armed is your state?
Here is a look at per capita weapons data, based on the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, and 2013 data from the U.S. Census. While the ATF's National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record is the only accessible list of its kind, it is not all-inclusive. NFA firearms only include the categories regulated by The National Firearms Act of 1934: machine guns, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors, destructive devices like bombs and grenades, concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive, and any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.
In the United States there are about 400,000,000 privately owned firearms. The numbers on the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record, (from 2013, as used in the NBC article) show a total of 3,510,980 firearms. That is less than 1 percent of the total firearms in the nation.

“North Dakota. The sheer quantity of shotguns and hunting rifles throws the earths gravity slightly off balance here.”
Not to mention the numbers of nuclear missiles stored underground and the nuclear bombs available for delivery from the USAF base. North Dakota is probably the most heavily armed state in the Union.
>>A rash of boating mishaps has left us defenseless.
I protect my guns. Never lost one. Still have all the ones that I didn’t sell through the so-called “gunshow loophole”.
>>But it hurts so _good_.
:-)
Like a 10mm Glock.
I don’t know if they are still legal to own, but a friend has a 12 shot, 12 ga ‘street sweeper’. Now THAT is cool to shoot!
Terrible!
But ignore the man behind the curtain and blame Dorothy’s dog Toto.
BINGO!
We have a winner over here.
If one can immediately answer the question “how many guns do you have?” without pausing to think about it (except for the obvious, “not enough,”) one needs to buy more guns.

Methinks FL follows the Bill of Rights Amendment Two: “A well armed...”
Imho of course.
5.56mm
Here in Texas it’s at least 2 per man and 1 per woman.
Myself, I don’t have any, they all got lost in a boating accident.
Which brings us around to a better question...
“Which state has the most boating accidents?”
Not if it was a .410
TN is a open carry state, so we have a lot of CCW PERMIT HOLDERS. WE also have life time CCW permits. Instead of every 4 yrs and $50, $200 gets you a life time permit. Most chose to conceal carry, as they do carry in places where those crappy no gun signs are up. NO STATE INCOME TAXES, BALANCED BUDGET State.
If I can’t get past that one mine is locked in the gun safe. I am on the Navy base at least once a week, so can’t carry there. But go to the Mall, your stupid sign is just that, your crime rate is to high. Me I prefer to shop Amazon any more when ever possible.
LETS KEEP TN A RED STATE vote Mae Beavers for Governor. Boyd is a pro AMNESTY RINO. REST ARE NOT EVEN WORTH LOOKING AT.
