Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, was found dead on Monday in a violent region in central Mexico, his body riddled with bullets inside his car after an apparent chase over back country roads.
Local authorities told El Pais that they had no suspects in the case due to the lack of witnesses.
A friend of the deceased told the Spanish-language newspaper that Muñoz was out taking photographs when he was shot, and speculated that an unfamiliar man with a camera may have spooked locals in the crime-ridden area.

I got relatives who are planning to go down there next winter. Cant remember which resort. Told them that I wouldnt go down there for all the tea in China.
Guess it isnt getting safe in the resort now.

I watched the first season of Narcos. It was okay except for the extended use of subtitles which flash on so quickly that one can’t read them or they are light print on light background, thus next to impossible to read. [I hate subtitles. I know it is a movie/TV program, so subtitles should be replaced with English. If I want to read, I’ll get a book.]
Looked about 5 minutes of the second season and quit. Movies or TV series about gangs and drugs are just not that entertaining for me.

Don’t New Mexico and parts of Texas look a lot like Mexico? Why would you go down there and risk kidnapping, extortion, or murder?

No way I would ever go there. The media hides all the murders the cartel does on a daily basis. They are always going after journalist too.
Cartel took out that lady mayor...found her body in a car if I remember correctly. Cartel hangs heads from street lamps too.
If you leave the state or country, you can avoid paying the unions.
I think cleaning up northern mexico with the military would be great live fire OJT for troops. Standing order would be to leave no one breathing.

The first two seasons of Narcos were just OK, but the third season is dynamite.

Looks like he had the right location for realism.
