Activists: "Soul of City" at Stake in Obama Library Agreement Flap
The Chicago Sun-Times ^ | September 21, 2017 | Rachel Hinton

About 300 residents packed a South Side auditorium Wednesday night to demand that the promise of jobs, economic development and other benefits of the Obama presidential library center be put in writing.

The activists and residents want a community benefits agreement, something many say will protect the neighborhoods and people the center may displace.

Last week, at the foundation’s community meeting, President Barack Obama himself told residents that he would not sign a benefits agreement, which would put into writing the promises the foundation has made thus far on bringing jobs, economic development and resources to the South Side.

The proposed library is an architectural monstrosity which resembles the Federal Metropolitan Corrections Center (a prison for federal inmates awaiting trial in the South Loop). The model is of representative of the Soviet style of architecture that Obama prefers.

Naturally, the man of the people refused to acknowledge the community that he once claimed to represent.

Do these people not know that presidential libraries are not economic engines?

Install a urinal in Harlem, right on the sidewalk with no privacy, with Obunghole’s picture in the bottom.

That’s more honor than he deserves.

Obama makes promises, but won’t sign an agreement. Maybe liberal privilege won’t cover him on this one. The people at these meetings are probably Obama supporters but know that his promises are worth little.

How rich.

Democrats are big on promises... and excuses, too.

Long ago I was a trainee for a company that did mega business with the city of Chicago.

Employees from the neighboorhood is a standard line in the contract. There is always hope someone will forget it.

I was seated next to my principle when it was brought up, he says, ‘give us an address and we will mail out a check’. (No work required.)

They are asking for 80%; WOW.
That would double or more the labor cost, compared to the real world.

This is a brilliant idea. Not only could it serve as the library it could also be seen as a piece of art. Liberals love art installations.

LOL! Agreed. I’d MAKE the time for that. And then circle back around to the back of the line and start all over again.
