Green and hazel occur when a brown-eyed person and a blue-eyed person have children, depending on their respective set of genes. Blue is a recessive trait, meaning both parents have to have that trait so that it can combine. Brown is a dominant trait, meaning that it will “overpower” blue. However, in European and American populations, even a brown-eyed person frequently has some blue, so there are often combinations depending on the mix in each parent.

And they can produce really striking, beautiful eye-colors.

Mother and brother: blue. Myself: very dark brown. A biologist once remarked that mine were unusually dark for a caucasoid.

Family lore says my mother has Semite, and my father has tribal American, in lineage. That must be it.

Weird, I have grey/hazel eyes. My husband is half Asian (Thai) and has brown eyes.

My daughter has blue eyes and dark hair.

My son (was a toe head as a toddler) has hair that is now basically brown and almost an ochre color eyes. When he was a baby they were super light almost tan. It was wild.

It’s not always as straightforward as many seem to think. Three of my four grandparents had blue eyes. Only my maternal grandfather had brown eyes. My mother has brown eyes. My father had blue eyes. My eyes are brown. So are my sister’s.

And selection for carriers of the blue eyed gene, even as recessives, resulted in it spreading faster.
In a Paleolitic world, the pretty girl becomes the alpha’s mate even if in a harem, and some of her kids become alphas. Gene spreads a lot faster. All because she had striking eyes that attracted the king’s attention in a crowd of brown eyes.

My mom had blue eyes and my dad had brown. Both my sister and I have blue eyes. Three of my children have blue eyes, one has hazel. Their dad has hazel eyes that sometimes look green. It’s interesting that it’s our eyes that can affect our attractiveness. Think of a person wearing dark glasses, who looks attractive, then when the glasses are removed, they may be either more or less attractive, depending on their eyes.
