Relief aid for Florida and Texas could be put on trucks and shipped into the disaster zone. Relief aid for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands has to come by ship or plane. Of course it’s going to take more time, especially if the ports and airports can’t function at full capacity.

(yup, we multi-millionaires are asking YOU to throw more tax dollars around)

They have thrown around plenty of tax dollars for Florida and Texas haven't they? Isn't FEMA going to need still more money for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands?

It is called bankruptcy. The USSR went through in in our recent lifetime.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but wasn't one of the conditions of the modern Russian Federation keeping the USSR's seat(s) at the table (UN, etc.) that they would assume the entire Soviet debt? I'm living in Russia at the moment, and I remember reading something earlier this summer that the last of some big chunk of Soviet debt was just paid off.

So predictable, the Democrats have been absolutely desperate for a disaster that they could scream at Trump about. They failed utterly in Texas and Florida and so now they are going to have a go at Puerto Rico even though the Puerto Rican government says Trump is doing a great job. Utterly cynical.

I have a relative who reviews the financial records for a company in PR. He says they’re all corrupt there. He was supposed to go down again in October but they’ve postponed it so who knows how bad it’ll be when he does finally get down there.

HA. records on paper, flooded or flew the coop, and no power along with a nice surge would clear things up. Yikes.

Puerto Rico sounds like America’s Venezuela. No worries though, Philadelphia’s PR community is willing to accept all 4 million refugees.

“...the reason nothing works is because they stole all the money rather than using it for it’s intended purpose.”

And, it’ll be no different for the $$$ that will pour in to Puerto Rico for hurricane relief. PR politicians & private companies involved in the rebuilding are probably already plotting how to divert USA aid money into their own pockets. Hopefully, Trump will have heavy security in place to safeguard these funds. The Dimocrats would go absolutely bonkers, but I would be perfectly OK if Trump bid out the rebuilding process to construction companies he knows and trusts.

Trump does need to show his face in PR, just as he did in Texas and Florida. He needs to turn his spotlight and megaphone on this situation.

“why don’t we let everyone who lives way past their means just get a free pass?”

If we had honest accounting of debt, it would be easier to justify strict enforcement of repayment terms - but we don’t.

Fiat money, Federal Reserve shenanigans, bank bailouts, government subsidies, taxation, regulation and redistribution have distorted the accounting ledgers beyond recognition.

The federal government has run up 20 trillion of explicit debt. Who knows how many hundreds of trillions in yet to be monetized debt or implied debt from future entitlement obligations?

All government debt eventually falls on the taxpayer to settle in one form or another, since government has no other source of real wealth.

So, who really owes what to whom? I owe $125k on my house, and in the days of a sound gold backed dollar, I would have said I owe that fair and square. I borrowed it. I signed the papers.

As it is, I believe I’ve been ripped off by a corrupt or at least incompetent government, complicit with Wall Street, causing booms and busts in real estate and economic crashes - who knows what my financial situation would have been without government/Wall Street malpractice?

So soon after the big banks got bailed out by the taxpayer, I have a real hard time worrying about Wall Street getting paid back by anyone, much less poor PR.

Wall Street and its Government protectors are the only players who ever come out unscathed.

I’m sure Trump’s point wasn’t to criticize PR for being in debt or expedite repayment. He was just trying to be empathetic, pointing out the severity of the numerous problems they are facing.

Now, Trump’s critics will twist it around to make it seem like Trump is piling on.

I would like to see how many millions he gives to Puerto Rico.

Search: Marc Anthony, who owns a minority stake in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, was worth $40 million as of May 2017, according to Celebrity Net Worth

#37 The clintons would take a big cut of any money just like in Haiti. None would reach anyone but them.
