The NFL would NOT allow the honoring of 5 slain police officers. Goodell needs to be HAMMERED as to why in light of all this bogus BS going on.

Mr. Trump is fanning the flames. The RUSSIA! foofaraw has run out of steam so he is kicking the deserving NFL dog and making it yelp and snarl. He is gaining support from demographics who had not been on board before and is keeping MSM and Democrat attention focused on the hand waving in the air. He is making some major moves with his other hand, I’m sure. I don’t see them yet either but I am sure sure things are moving.

Getting too close to government censorship for me. I’m as anti-NFL as anyone right now.

But there’s a line Trump shouldn’t come anywhere close to for me. Once the government (president) says “no kneeling” it goes from a private business lawfully controlling employee speech to a 1st amendment problem. And the president can punish them a lot ($$$) with tweets so they have an argument.

Trump should propose an amendment to congress or states if he wants change. Don’t use Obama’s “it would be a shame if you didn’t ... and then ....” threats.

“Representatives for the league and its players union could not be reached immediately for comment.”

Tells you all you need to know.

The NFL will agree, with “reluctant” endorsement from the NFLPA.

Of course, now they have to do the hard work of firing the dozen or so hard-core radicals in the NFL who will not comply.

Perhaps the better course of action is to do away with the federal tax exemption for the NFL and others - they may claim to be non-profit but everyone knows that probably isn’t case.

Then get on the state and local government folks to stop using tax dollars to fund stadiums.

Then do away with any income tax benefit or exemption players get when playing away games - pay income tax where you earn it.

Time to stop funding these protests.

“Gotta love Trump. He stays on the attack.”

Absolutely! Love that about our guy.

This was very smart of him. Whether or not the NFL passes a rule requiring teams to stand during the anthem, or if they if they all follow suit of the Cowboys and kneel, then stand, Trump comes out on top.

Everyone will eventually be standing during the anthem. All other antics aside.

I still won’t watch, but I love the winning.

You contradicted yourself in your own post.

First you said this comes too close to government censorship for you, and a few sentences later you ask Trump to propose an amendment to congress.

Trump suggested the NFL make a rule requiring players stand for the anthem, which was the perfect play. He asked the NFL to make the rule, not the government.

This is a bad move. Trump is acting like a king, just like everyone on this forum accused Obama of acting. Freedom is for EVERYONE, not just those you agree with.

I don’t like the disrespect any more than most of you, but these clowns have a right to act like clowns. Freedom to disagree makes us better than any other country in the world. Having a leader(s) define what is and isn’t acceptable, whether we’re talking about so-called “hate speech” or kneeling during the anthem, is how the rest of the world operates. America is better than that, and is a nobler ideal.

Why not let these guys kneel if they choose to, and allow the wonderful free market to take its course? Business straightens up pretty quickly when the market says “we don’t like what you’re selling.” Let it be and let the NFL do itself in. Goodell is doing a great job managing the assisted suicide of the league anyway.

Why not just let nature take its course and focus on something where a difference can actually be made?

“Trump knows that he can’t lose on this one.”
Let’s see, the US president standing up for America, while opposed by Uniparty and its minion SOBs in entertainment.

Since he already did it last fall, my money’s on President Trump.

No, let them take a knee. Then fire them right there on the 50 yard line. Let a Gold Star mother hand out the pink slips.

It’s over. No one will be taking a knee this weekend during the National Anthem. By Jerry Jones taking a knee with his team last night prior to standing for the National Anthem, he and the Cardinals closed the books on this for the NFL.

The NFL cannot continue with this if they want to stay in business.

> First you said this comes too close to government censorship for you, and a few sentences later you ask Trump to propose an amendment to congress.

The proper path to government censorship is to pass an amendment with all of the public discussion and voting by representatives. If the Constitution allows censorship, the president can censor speech or punish businesses in accordance with the Constitution. Until the Constitution allows it, the president should avoid doing it or appearing to do it. The president can propose amendments that allow him/her to do what they want (i.e. censorship or punishing speech). If that’s what Trump wants, he should follow the Constitutional path like Obama should have in many things he did.

I’m 100% against censorship. I can’t imagine supporting an amendment allowing censorship. But, if it is passed through the defined Constitutional processes, I’ll accept that Trump (or the next Obama) can censor speech. Until then, neither of them should come close to doing it, though both would be proper in proposing amendments if they think it should be allowed.

How is he acting like a king? I haven't seen an executive order ordering the players to stand for the anthem. Instead, even more football players are kneeling just to spite him. A real king wouldn't put up with that. A real king would call for their heads.

And yes, people do have the freedom to express their opinions and that includes the president and his supporters. For too long, conservatives and patriots have allowed themselves to be cowed into silence while the tail wags the dog.

Let them have their opinions but now they are going to hear OURS as well!

but ... but ... but the GOPEs’ political genius, Karl Rove, wrote just yesterday that this is a battle President Trump cannot win. How can this be??!!! (/sarc, of course)

My point is that they (the NFL) are self destructing. Trump’s statements only keep the issue alive and make him look bad. (Barry O said similar things without issuing an executive order, but that didn’t stop us calling him a king.) He’s inserting himself into places where he doesn’t need to be. Let the free market handle it. Let it die a natural death on the ash heap of history.

I wholeheartedly agree with you that people can express their opinions and that there are consequences for doing so. That’s what needs to happen and the president’s fanning of the flames don’t allow the NFL to go gently into that good night, where it belongs.
