More than 500 underage asylum seekers went missing in Switzerland in 2016, a huge rise on the previous year’s tally of 94, according to official statistics reported by RTS.

In total, around 5,000 unaccompanied migrants aged under 18 at the time of arrival currently live in Switzerland, said the broadcaster, quoting the Swiss migration office (SEM).

However, after saying they want to claim asylum, many then flee the official reception centers and disappear from the authorities’ radar.

In total, 539 young migrants went missing in 2016 — a figure that includes 81 who were aged over 18 but who are counted as minors because they claimed asylum when they were under 18.

The vast majority — 324 — were aged 16-17, while 134 were in the age bracket 6-15. …

Most of them lied about their age and most/all of them know they do not qualify for “political asylum” — they are moving on to Germany etc. to find new ways to milk the EU morons.

A report in the media suggested that in some areas of the country up to 90 percent of asylum seekers flee while awaiting the outcome of their application.

The SEM said at the time that most of those who disappear from Swiss reception centres are thought to be heading for Germany.

As a result, there's nothing to suggest that there are more illegals living in Switzerland.

the conclusion is actually funny. "yeah, we lose just about all of them, but they're all going to germany, so this just totally not our problem. sucks to be german, though."

Have to wonder if a map and one way tickets to Germany are in the welcome packet at the Swiss “asylum” centers.

Riiight - they know they’re under 18 how?? If you can’t trust a rapefugee telling you how old he is, who can you trust?

Here’s the thing. There aren’t barns and garages to live in. In Switzerland every possible home is a registered address and all people living there are registered. In the German side, most of CH, neighbors WILL report suspicious people living with you. So mostly, you cannot hide in Switzerland -— an exception could be for a diplomat or international worker in Geneva of your country who might deliberately hide you in their residence and who can get away with it through diplomatic immunity.

So these people have gone off grid into France and Germany. They must have known they wouldn’t get refugee $ out of CH or wouldn’t qualify. It’s scary.

Actually the Swiss try to keep the asylum seekers occupied, educated and entertained. Many take advantage of the field trips to Italy with a free pass to tour the Vatican. Others look forward to “the Swedish bus ride”. But most just want the Berlin tour. Hard to know when they will get back to Switzerland and finish the asylum process.

The same thing happens where I live in Spain and for probably the same reason, only worse. Spain not only has no welfare system it also has high unemployment for natives so migrants head straight for the French border.

True - Switzerland is a highly regulated society where it would be difficult for illegal migrants to survive. Married to a Swiss woman, lived in Switzerland.

Swiss are tough, it is never a destination. Holland gives money and an apartment, immediately. That’s where they go.
