President Trump told a gathering of the Republican Party’s richest donors at a Manhattan fundraiser that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could have stopped players’ protests during the national anthem by suspending former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick when he first took a knee last year.

“All Goodell had to do was say there’s rules and you can’t do it, suspend him for a couple games, you would never have had this,” Trump said, citing an attendee. “Now you have this whole thing going and it’s a very dangerous thing ‘cause we cannot let anyone disrespect our country like that.”

Kaepernick began taking a knee during the singing of the “The Star-Spangled Banner” last year before San Francisco’s pre-season games, saying “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”

Trump told the crowd at Le Cirque, that the league has rules and should enforce them.

“They have a rule, you can’t dance in the end zone, you can’t wear pink socks, one guy’s mother had breast cancer and they wouldn’t let him, you can’t do anything! But you’re allowed to sit down for the national anthem,” Trump

I will add one.

No half time shows that are not respectful to our country. Definitely not political or racist. Beyonce is banned. Bring in the military or school bands.

Nah, I haven’t seen a good, solid trainwreck in a while. Let it continue. If you make rules and force apologies, it ends, these guys lose nothing, continue to get paid millions to be scum, and they can even claim on the side that they were “bullied” or “censored” or whatever.

Instead, let individual teams figure out whether they want to force their players into any or all of these. Let the true bastards continue to show their faces and let the limp-dicked ones deal with individual activist players continually drawing bad attention to their team. If the owners don’t want make Goodell apologize, let it rain down on all of them.

If you force children who don’t think they’ve done anything wrong to apologize, the apology is meaningless. If you give them the chance to rethink things and offer a sincere apology, that’s different, and they can either make things right or suffer further consequences as a result of their actions.
