When I was in school the policy was that parents who objected to their kids standing for the Pledge were allowed to put it in writing and those students were allowed to sit quietly at their desks or leave the classroom. The teachers and principals admonished us young skulls full of mush in no uncertain terms not to harass those kids because of it.

Heck, when I was in school and I probably speak for a lot of FReepers, it was NEVER discussed. It was taught and that was it! In the 40’s and 50’s, it would not have been a problem that came up.

The idea of possibly not participating in the Pledge did not exist in the mind of anyone when I was in school in the ‘50s and ‘60s. It’s what you did; it’s what everyone did.

There are so many other countries in the world where America haters can choose for relocation. Why are they HERE??
