Senate Unveils Budget Blueprint Allowing $1.5 Trillion in Tax Cuts
NY Times ^ | Sept. 29, 2017 | THOMAS KAPLAN and ALAN RAPPEPORT

The Senate Budget Committee unveiled a 2018 budget blueprint on Friday that would open the door for a $1.5 trillion tax cut, even as an independent analysis concluded that the plan as offered would far exceed that price tag and overwhelmingly benefit corporations and the rich.

The budget resolution could also pave the way to opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil drilling, a hot-button Republican proposal that has languished for decades.

So it benefits everyone

No it doesn't. If you live in a high tax state, you are going to get punished. Your taxes will essentially go up, because you lose your biggest deductions.

Nice.

Somehow, I don't remember this being touted from the MAGA rallies a year ago, right before Trump earned millions of our votes. I didn't hear him say:

We are going to eliminate the state and local tax deductions, so that you pay even more to the Federal Government - especially those who are already paying so much in taxes!! We have have to 'pay for' tax cuts to other folks somehow!

Nope. He didn't. But that is what is going to happen.

So they could not eliminate the soul destroying and business destroying ObamaCare. The wall is still not funded.

But they are going to raise my taxes by a huge amount.

Great.

Just great.

I voted for President Trump, I didn't vote to have my taxes increase so dramatically.

I agree. This is a betrayal.

I also smell Paul Ryan.

The elimination of the deductions and the "over 10 years" jargon is the exact same rhetoric that Ryan used when he inserted language in the 2013 budget agreement to slash the pensions of military retirees, even those who were 100% disabled due to combat injuries.

Proposal is for less tax therefore there must be cuts in the budget. Mil could be one of them.

North Korea, Russia in Syria, we're still in Afghanistan, military stretched thin by providing disaster relief through hurricanes and earthquakes, Sequestration still in effect, years of deep Obama budget cuts, etc.

Sure, they could slash the military again. Our GOP Congress doesn't seem to want to touch any social program Taker welfare or entitlements. But to cut the military, before it has even begun to recover from years of neglect, abuse, and the budget cutters would be very detrimental to the nation.

I guess it's too much to ask to cut these:

Universal Program for Subsidized Phones for Low Income (ObamaPhones), EBT Food Stamps (SNAP), ObamaCare Subsidies for Immigrants, ObamaCare Subsidies for Low Income, Medicaid, Section 8 Housing, Unemployment, TANF Welfare, Energy Assistance, EITC, Foster Care Title IV, Old Age Assistance, AFDC, General Assistance Cash, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Assets for Independence, School Lunch Assistance, General Assistance to Native Americans, Child Care Development Fund, SCHiP State Supplemental Health Insurance Program, Consolidated Health Centers, Foster Care Grants, Consolidated Community Health, Maternal and Child Health Assistance Fund, Healthy Start, School Lunch Block Grant, Job Assistance, Job Training, Minority Job Assistance, Job Relocation, Woman Infants and Children's Program, Nutrition for the Elderly, Summer Program, Summer Jobs Program, Minority Summer Jobs, Hispanic Jobs Program, African-American Jobs Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program, Special Milk Program, Needy Families, Farmer's Market Nutrition Program, Public Housing, Low Income Energy Assistance, Migrant Education, Title One Grants to Local Education Authorities, Education for Homeless Children and Youth, Even Start, Job Corps, Social Security Disability, Social Security for Refugees, Social Security for Humanitarian Cases, Social Security for Asylum, Health Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood Grants, TANF Child Care, Empowerment Zones for Minority Communities, Urban Development Action Grants, and Family Planning (abortion).

I know exactly what you are saying. In reality the bills are worked on one at a time. If we had tax reform the budget has to adjust to it.

A few days ago I was listening to the confirmation hearing of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The candidate was asked if the Sequester had affected the military posture, and he indicated it has caused exactly the problems you asked about.
