There is certainly a background vibe in all of this pointing to the possibility that (a) Paddock was used by others and maybe not even with his full understanding, or (b) Paddock met up with certain elements somewhere on his global travels and decided to throw in his lot with them.

Otherwise, all we have is the rather unlikely scenario that a relatively successful senior citizen (almost) decided that his way of going crazy would be to kill as many people as he could for no rational reason.

However, people do go crazy and at that point their thought processes are by definition irrational.

I’m relatively confident that an overseas connection will come to light and that his motivation (if indeed he did the shooting) was politicized either through duress (threats made) or acceptance of some ideology (most likely candidates being radical Islam and far left anarchy).
