Palestinians: A State Within a State?

The "reconciliation" accord they reached in Cairo paves the way for creating a state within a state in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian-sponsored deal does not require Hamas to dismantle its security forces and armed wing, Ezaddin Al-Qassam. Nor does the agreement require Hamas to lay down its weapons or stop amassing weapons and preparing for war.

This is a very comfortable situation for Hamas, which has effectively been absolved of any responsibility toward the civilian population. Hamas could not have hoped for a better deal. Like Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in the Gaza Strip will be permitted to maintain its own security force, while Abbas's government oversees civilian affairs and pays salaries to civil servants.

Offloading this responsibility frees up Hamas to fortify its military capabilities. Hamas is not being asked to recognize Israel's right to exist or accept any peace process.

No way! That would be like declaring that Nevada is now a Mexican state, regardless of what the U.S. thinks. Who would go along with a hostile state being unilaterally declared within their midst?

the Palestinian Authority and Hamas – one in charge of civilian issues while the second has full security control.

Winners: Islamo-nazis
Loser: Israel

Typical ME cluster-congress.

What it means is that the PL could technically recognize Israel while it’s autonomous internal state of Hamas continues its terror.

I guess the analogy would be if the US declared the pentagon to be a separate state—not beholden to any treaties past, present or future, and able to operate freely without oversight by the parent state that voluntarily maintains and provisions it.

“What it means is that the PL could technically recognize Israel while it’s autonomous internal state of Hamas continues its terror.”

If there were a peace agreement with those who claim to represent the group, that calls themselves Palestinians, it would not mean peace. FATAH is currently viewed as the politically correct group.

There are other groups that claim to represent those same interest (Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), The Popular Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PDFLP), and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). And don't forget the Iranians, and other Arab 9MUSLIM) countries that don't recognize Israels right to exist, and call for Israels destruction.

Hamas already has a base from which to attack Israel (Gaza). All they want is to turn the West Bank into another site from which to launch attacks. Whether they are adherents of Sunni or Shiite, they all call for the destruction of Jews and Christians, and the imposition of an Islamic Caliphate over the entire world. They view those who follow the Book (the Bible) as their enemies.

All that would happen is another violent group would raise its head, call for Israels destruction, and the world would try to appease them.
