This event occurred in the area of the previous North Korean Nuclear tests. The event has earthquake like characteristics, however, we cannot conclusively confirm at this time the nature (natural or human-made) of the event. The depth is poorly constrained and has been held to 5 km by the seismologist. The Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) is the sole organization in the U.S. federal government whose mission is to detect and report technical data from foreign nuclear explosions.

He’s going to end up dumping radiation into the atmosphere and pissing off the wrong neighbors(Russia and China).
The Drudge Quake Sheet has a 2.9 in NK.
I’ve read where if Phat Boi set off enough nukes there, the whole mountain could implode and release a heap of radioactivity into the air. Maybe this was the mountain rearranging itself a little. Then maybe Russia and/or China will take care of our problem for us.
The winds blow from west to east
My co-worker went back to China for his wedding and felt the last test as his village is not for from the NK border.
He recorded the siren going off after the test and felt the tremors.
Lil’ Kim had beans for lunch.
its at a depth of 5 km - about 2.5 miles. That is too deep for a test but probably an ‘aftershock’ from the test a couple months ago
Only a 2.9? Maybe Fat Kim fell down a flight of stairs. But seriously wasn’t the last nuke test like a 5.0? Sounds like a 2.9 would either be a minor tremor or possible a nuke test that fizzled.
The amplitude must be really low, since even nearby MDJ (Mudanjiang, Heilongjiang Province, China) showed completely "flat line" during the period of time shortly following 2017-10-12 16:41:08 (UTC):
If, indeed the Lat-long info is correct, perhaps it was an after-effect, such as partial test chamber collapse...
It is possible. The intial nucelar blast lifts up and distorts the rock and dirt above, below, and around the blast. Some melts, and collects in the cavern. The “roof” obviously, can be unstable because it is just the rock that did not immediately “fall down” into the new cavity.
SO, a collapsed roof is a sudden shock (not the instant “blast” of a nuke explosion, but not the longer, more drawn out movement of a regular earthquake.) that “might” be 2.9 magnitude.
But “just a roof collapse” would certainly be detectable, but a 2.9 magnitude collapse? I don’t think so.
(Obviously, a roof collapse might, or might not, released radiation into the air.)
New moon in a couple of weeks.
it looks like a radation release in Korea would go south over Taiwan, and maybe the Phillipeans, and could then circle back up and hit Alaska.
All the tests before were exactly on the hour or half hour. 16:41:08 does not match that pattern.
His first H-Bomb was 6.3 magnitude.
If it turns out that they can no longer use the site for the test, they are forced into a temporary moratorium on the nuclear test. They can look for another site but won't be easy.
