Weather is fine, job is good, apartment is finally up to speed, but the movers wrecked my Yamaha electric piano. I’ve filed a claim.

AS WELL YOU SHOULD!!

Movers are at times not very careful, and that’s a huge loss! Hope you get it settled quickly.

You need your Yamaha electric piano. Good grief!!

I purchased the Yamaha YDP-223 model back in 2006 from a mail order firm in Alabama for $1600. It came as a kit, and I spent an afternoon putting it all together, back in the days before my back problems started.

In my 2011 and 2014 moves, the assembled instrument was carefully wrapped, and it survived both moves without incident.

This time, the movers disassembled it first. Each piece was wrapped, but something smashed into the wrapped keyboard during shipping. Two keys, G and A, were broken, but the underlying key mechanisms of G, G#, A and A# were smashed.

I've put in a claim with the moving company. Yamaha no longer makes that model, so that will no doubt complicate things.

Has to be so disappointing that your keyboard is smashed and can’t be replaced by the same model. I hope they will let you find something comparable to replace it with.

One of the biggest reasons I hate to move.

I am SO sorry to hear that!

I had a Yamaha Electric Piano in Florida which I carefully moved myself without disassembly. Then, when I was to move to MA with less than a week’s notice, I swapped pianos with my next-door neighbor Juan, who was a refugee from Venezuela and a brilliant pianist. I gave him the 88-key piano with cabinet legs and real pedals, and he gave me his Yamaha 74-key keyboard. (on an X-stand).

I wrapped that keyboard in several layers of foam, and brought it north in the back of my car. It survived two more moves after that.

I have no idea what has become of Juan, but I know that members of his family were farmers in Venezuela and were murdered by government thugs and their farm confiscated.

The piano had touch-sensitive keys and felt like a real piano, and of course, the keyboard feels more like an organ than a piano, but I’m used to it.

Moving companies are notorious for not honoring their contract not to break stuff. I had a beautiful glass curio cabinet from Israel that survived the trip from Israel, but got smashed when I moved two blocks away in Florida. (((SIGH))) The moving company gave me $30.00 compensation on a $1000.00 cabinet.

Best of Luck fighting for your RIGHTS!
